8. Self-Directed Learning

Our Objectives (For Rationale, Look at the 2016 Horizon Report, K-12 Edition -- pages 32-40)

  • Establish a healthy workflow for school leadership teams
  • Examine learning communities that stimulate, nurture and support administrators, faculty, and staff in the study and use of technology
  • Access and analyze current research how teacher-directed PD is transforming schools
  • Gain understanding of how administrators can promote an environment of professional learning and innovation that empowers educators and fosters self-directed professional development.

Our Tasks

1. Discuss how administrators in their districts promote an environment of professional learning and innovation that empowers educators and fosters self-directed professional development. We can also discuss how leaders stay abreast of educational research and emerging trends regarding effective use of technology and encourage evaluation of new technologies for their potential to improve student learning. Define “Digital Badge” and read through articles on how teacher-directed PD is transforming schools.

2. Facilitate and participate in learning communities that stimulate, nurture and support administrators, faculty, and staff in the study and use of technology
