This unit involves designing an making a marionette puppet from Air-dried clay and other materials. This is a project that requires quite considerable effort and a lot of planning. Students must be prepared to find a lot of materials themselves particularly for costumes for their puppets.
Create 4 fully coloured design ideas in your visual diary for your puppet. The designs are to be 1/2 page sized and fully coloured using coloured pencils. You should think in terms of particular characters that use different costumes (like a policeman, a footy supporter, a demon, etc)
Make the clay parts of the puppet. (The Head, hands, feet, body section). Make sure you have holes in the right place while the clay is still soft.
Glue eyes and the loops on the top of the head. Also join the body to the head.
Use ropes to make the arms and legs.
Make the costume from the materials you have collected from home. Gluing the material usually works well.
Make the cross bar from dowel using a square file and sandpaper.
String up your completed puppet.
