This is a Visual Communications project. It requires you to design a picture using the rules of 2-point perspective. You will need a ruler, a 2H or HB pencil, an eraser, a black fine liner and your coloured pencils. It is very easy to create an interesting and complex drawing if you follow the rules of 2-point perspective exactly.
There are three parts to this project. All three exercises are to be done on a full page of your visual diary.
· The first is a simple and quick preliminary exercise that requires you to draw three boxes. These are ruled line drawings, which do not require to be shaded or coloured.
. The second task is a task that involves using 2 point perspective to do block lettering. Choose a word that has at least 4 letters.
· The third and main task is to draw a fully coloured (or shaded) city landscape, which is to be both fine lined and coloured (or carefully shaded).
The following YouTube clips show step by step how to do these tasks. You are certainly encouraged to expand on the city-scape from the clip and add your own ideas and features. The trick is to not rush your work and think twice before fine lining.
Remember to be very light with your HB or 2H pencil so you can erase the working lines. After you have fine lined, you will be ready to colour your picture. Being careful and deliberate with your colouring is very important. The two coloured images on this web page both show careful and patient colouring. The one with the giant octopus uses shading with the coloured pencils.
