This drawing activity uses coloured pencils and focuses on the use of both tone and colour.
Dragons are mythical creatures so no-one knows what their eyes really look like. Some people believe dragon's eyes should be similar to a goat's eyes with a vertical pupil while others think a dragon has an eye with a circular pupil. You can decide for yourselves, or do both.
Use a page of your visual diary to draw eight different designs for dragon's eyes. Set it up like the picture opposite. Use a google image search to help with ideas. You are to use coloured pencils, not grey lead and you are to focus on the quality of the colouring. Notice how the best looking eyes use dark and light with each colour and often use contrasting colours to make the eye stand out from the dragons body colour. Use the following link to see some eye ideas.
We will be doing this activity for two sessions. You will need to photograph your work at the end of the first session and upload the photo to Learning Areas Class Tasks and photograph again when it is complete to Learning areas Assessment Tasks.
