Manga

This is a coloured pencil unit that looks at the Japanese cartooning style “Manga”. Many television cartoons are created in Manga style (Anime is the animated name for this style). Transformers are “Robotic” Manga designs.

The main “human” characteristic of this famous cartooning style is the detail of the hair and eyes and the lack of detail of the other facial features. If we were working from school there would be a series of Manga books available but luckily there is an enormous amount of information and images on the internet.

Work Task:

You will need your coloured pencils for this task. The task will run for 3 sessions and involves you drawing the following in your visual diary (or other drawing paper).

• 3 different male manga characters (on one page) LINK
• 3 different female manga characters (on one page) LINK
• 3 different robotic or animal manga characters (on one page). LINK LINK
• The final piece will be a coloured pencil drawing of an action scene that has at least one Manga character. This is to be on a page of you visual diary.

All work is to be photographed and submitted through Simon Learning Areas. There will be a Class Task set up each day for daily feedback and an Assessment Task to upload all of the work after the three sessions.
