The painting unit is the first unit for the year and is probably the longest of the units we study. We will start with a technical exercise that will refresh us with colour mixing and paint use.
The first painting style we look at is abstract painting. A true abstract painting is not meant to represent anything. If it looks like a particular thing, it is purely by accident because an abstract image is only meant to look like itself. There have been many different abstract artists since the early 20th century and there are many different methods of creating abstract art works.
For our abstract painting we will be copying small cropped sections from a series of supplied photos. The images we finish with will not relate to the original pictures and will become an abstract image in their own right.
We will be using a complimentary colour scheme to complete our abstract paintings (refer to the link below).
POnce the Abstract painting is complete we will look at another major Art Movement of the 20th Century: Impressionism
We will do a research project on the Impressionist painters and then produce a painting in the Impressionist style.
The final part of the painting unit is to write a report on what we did and learned during the unit. Look on the Term 1 menu at the top of the page, or use this Link to get to the page.
