This project requires you to design or invent an animal which has characteristics of a number of different animals in it. You can look at ideas on Google Images as well as create your own ideas. -A cross between a cow and a caterpillar; a horse and a canary; a poodle and a trout etc.
1. You are to do 3 ideas sketches in your visual diary concentrating on shading using your 2B, 4B and 6B pencils if you have them, otherwise you will have to use whatever pencils you have at home. The most important thing is to make sure that you start your drawings very lightly because you can easily darken areas but it is much more difficult to lighten a drawing which is all dark. A well shaded picture has contrast. It is not dark and darker, it is dark and light.
2. Your final drawing is to be a completed and well finished picture done on a page of your visual diary. It is to include a background. You need to visualize where the shadow would be because you are creating a three dimensional looking animal purely by the use of shadow.
The "B" pencils smudge easily. This can be used to great effect in a shaded drawing. You may use your finger to smudge or blend areas of your drawings to create a natural looking shadow. I always shade with the edge of my shading pencil rather than the point.
During the remote learning time, the completed work will need to photographed and uploaded to Learning Areas for assessment. There will be classwork task set each day for students to get daily feedback, as well as an Assessment Task set up for the last day of the task so that your work can be assessed.
