This Project is a fun project that requires students to design, draw, cut and assemble to produce their final “illusion”
§ Step 1: You need to draw 2 different objects that you would like to have in your cage. It is a good idea to use objects that either compliment each other or ones that create a "surprise". Each drawing must be A4 size and both be in the same orientation (both landscape or both portrait). The main object must be as large as possible on the A4 sheet and the background colour of each A4 image should be contrasting to gain the greatest effect,
4 design ideas should be done in your visual diary first.
Step 2: You need to rule both of your finished drawings into vertical 1cm strips and number each strip (starting from the left hand side of your page). Small numbers on the very top of each strip is best.
Step 3: Cut one of the drawings into strips (the guillotine is best for this) and glue all of the even numbered strips onto the even numbers of the other drawing (the one you haven’t sliced up).
Step 4: Make your cage. To do this you need to get a sheet of A3 paper and fold it in half to make it A4 size. You then need to rule the A4 half into 1cm strips leaving 1cm at the top and bottom and 2cm at each end. Using a Stanley knife, metal ruler and a cutting mat, you need to carefully cut every 2nd strip out of your cage.
Step 5 : Assemble it. You can now put your objects in their cage. Laminating works really well to make the pieces slide without catching.
