"Static & Silence" is the third full-length album by The SUNDAYS, released in the UK by Parlophone on September 22, 1997, and in the U.S. by Geffen a day later on the 23rd.
During their time off between the end of the Blind tour and "Static", The SUNDAYS built their own recording studio at home. This is where they wrote and recorded "Static", with some work at RAK Studios. "Static" bore 2 singles: "Summertime" and "Cry", both of which were released in 2-CD single format in the UK. The format produced double the b-side content across the 2 releases, including some very important demo and live material, not to mention a couple more original tracks.
Haven't seen too many variations of this album either, although there were a handful of promo issues from both Parlophone UK and Geffen US and the usual suspects, in terms of regular album releases, on the global front. Note that the US & Canadian editions offer an additional song, "So Much", and changes the track order of "Cry". The Japanese issue mirrored the track order of the UK release but added 3 extra tracks, b-sides from the "Summertime" and "Cry" singles.
