Beyond 60 - Wellbeing

Q8 of the COVID Lessons questionnaire asked how often people lacked companionship, felt left out, isolated or lonely during COVID. Based on responses to these questions, a score between 0 and 8 gives an indication of how socially isolated people have felt during COVID.

The gender-age profiles for men and women are normalised against the total numbers of each to have responded - so, 35% of all the men that responded scored 1, whilst 15% of the women scored 3. It's notable that men report lower levels of isolation than women.

Qs26-29 used the CASP 19 questions to estimate wellbeing levels. Maximum possible scores for each component of CASP:-

Autonomy 15
Self-realisation 15
Pleasure 15

Maximum possible CASP score = 57

Between 2015 when the main B60 study CASP scores were collected and 2020 in the COVID Lessons (CLS), in addition to an overall reduction in CASP score from 46 to 41, the pre-COVID main focus on "Pleasure" has been replaced by that on "Self-Realisation" ... perhaps not surprising at a time of COVID worry.
