Beyond 60 - Volunteering

North Muskham Parish Council have been considering the possibility of being involved in an Age UK/NCC community volunteering project, building on the local Buddies initiative launched at the beginning of the COVID lockdown.

It seems likely that there will be a continuing need to develop the 'circular concept of volunteering where neighbours in a community help each other' that Age UK talk of, across all our 3 Muskham's ... given the ageing of our village population, and the associated age-friendliness challenge, the data suggest that an important objective for both Parish Council and MRCC should be to support and foster local volunteering activity as best they can.

In the COVID Lessons survey respondents responded to a number of questions about volunteering.

The charts provide background to the significant challenge of creating an A1 Volunteer network ('A1 Volunteers' isn't an official name, just one I've suggested).

The survey data is skewed toward older age groups and is likely to be underestimating the current and likely future volunteering activity of younger age groups.

North Muskham has 3 different "Census Output Areas", each with 300+ people - the 3 areas have significantly different characteristics, probably have different volunteer service needs and the data so far suggests they vary in their capacity to provide volunteers.
