8.5”x11” construction paper, paper scraps, scissors and glue stick

What kind of lines does Matisse use in his artwork?
What colors does he use?
What shapes do you observe?
What is in the background?
What is located in the foreground?
How do you know what is in the middle ground?
Who can show me curved lines in the room?
Who can stand up and show me what a straight line looks like with your body?
Presentation of Content
Teacher will demonstrate:
Using scissors how to cut paper in lines and in various shapes
Using scissors, how to turn paper to create a curved line
Put glue on paper, place and press down
Explain this is the background
How to take another line or shape, glue and place in front, explain this is the middle ground
How to cut another line or shape, glue and place in front, explain this is the foreground
Explain that all shapes and lines must cover the whole paper to create a balanced collage
Assessment and Evaluation
Teacher will:
Walk around room holding up examples and pointing out details of foreground, background and middle ground
Hold up work and explain the unique compositions
Make sure students are using scissors correctly
Walk around room holding examples of work that shows use of balance
Correct any misuse of glue
Make certain all directions are being followed
