This yacht had obviously not been used for several years and its only trip in recent times had been from the Blue Mountains to Swansea, where she was put up for sale.
I had taken a look at her some time before, but had dismissed her because of the amount of work that would be required to bring her back to a sailing yacht. Her owner had converted her to a fishing boat and removed all the rigging (all of the components had been put in a bag). There was also some rot in the hull that would have to be replaced.
I went on to look at some others for sale (and I was too late to purchase a beautiful fibreglass version, as it was only on the market for one day before being sold). A few weeks later I was again searching through the web when I saw that the price of her had been dramatically dropped as it had to be sold. The asking price now matched my own valuation of the yacht, so I ended up purchasing Hull no. 1185 “Pugwash”.
Before towing her up to the Mid North Coast I had to make sure that the trailer was roadworthy, so I took off the hubs, re-greased the bearings, put them back together and and pumped up the tyres. I had built a rear lighting bar to use if necessary, but was amazed when all the lights worked. We left Swansea around 4.30pm on the 20th September 2018.
Getting through Newcastle in rush hour was not too bad and I stopped a couple of times to make sure that all was well. She set well behind the ute and three hours later we made it home.
Emptied out and about to be washed down.
