My Background in Badminton
I've been playing badminton since 1960 and still enjoy playing - even if it is a bit slower these days. An ankle injury in the 1970's stopped me playing for nearly two years and during that time I qualified as a coach and worked as assistant U18 coach in Victoria.
In the late 1980's we moved to Adelaide where I played "A" grade competition and I got involved with the U18 state team there for a few years before we moved to Sydney.
After several years away from coaching I went back through the qualifications and I became a Level 2 (State Level Coach) and also the coach instructor and assessor for NSW.
During my time in NSW I have been Vice President of Hunter Badminton for 6 years and was Vice President of
NSW Badminton for 6 years.
Hunter Badminton At The World Masters Games - Sydney 2009
In 2009 Hunter Badminton entered a team in the World Masters Games in Sydney. I ran a blog website for the team.
STATE COACHING NSW
2013 NSW U17 Lightning
In 2013 I was coach of NSW U17 Lightning completing at the June Bevan National Teams event in Altona, Melbourne and the U17 Individual events. My blog website can be viewed here.
The Australian U17 Team Championships are for the June Bevan Trophy. June was a brilliant player, winning 17 Australian Titles, and playing for Australia at Commonwealth Games.
June likes to attend and I introduced the team to her - a really nice lady and the team loved it.
The team loved that winning feeling!
2013 NSW U15 Thunder
I was also coach for the U15 first team. We ended up runners-up for Victoria, going down 5-3 in the final. I don't have any photos.
2014 NSW U15 Thunder
Back again for another year. This time we went to Launceston in Tasmania and finally got our revenge on Victoria, winning 5-3 in the final.
"Words of Wisdom" at the break. If we win this game, then we win the championship.
They all played so well - a Champion Team.
Central Coast Badminton Academy
In conjunction with Colin North we run Central Coast Badminton Academy on the Central Coast to help develop badminton in the region.
This led to the formal creation of the Central Coast Badminton Association, that is still active and growing.
