When she had been moved to Swansea, all the rigging, sails, motor (old Johnston 6hp) etc. had been thrown into the cabin and left there while she was up for sale. Having set for some time, dirt and wasps had made their home there and unfortunately rain water had gathered in the bilges. Over the months (if not some years) this had probably caused most of the damage.
On getting her home the first thing was to get everything out of her and document just what was there. Some of the inventory included:
Sails:
3 mains (all in reasonable “cruising” order) and 4 jibs (again in reasonable order). Interestingly, the newest main sail had 1285 rather than 1185 on it.
Rigging:
All the standing and running rigging needed to be replaced due to age. Mast needed to be treated and some fittings replaced.
Hull Fittings:
All the rigging points had been removed (such as bow fittings, chain plates, blocks and cleats) and most of them were in a bag. Sorting them out I decided, that firstly, the bow fittings and chain plates should be replaced. These I needed to help get her on her side in order to replace some of the plywood planking. Other areas, such as travellers and block fittings would be left until after the hull was fixed up.
Rudder:
This looked to be in good order, although the up and down-hauls needed to be replaced and cleats replaced.
Motor:
Looked alright and started OK. I've put it in for a "service".
Anchor:
Light little anchor (compared with what I've been used to..). Chain looked OK. Shackles and line to be replaced.
