Scale
Scale
Students will sing any major scale, up and down, using solfege syllables, numbers, or la. Humming is not allowed. Mouth must be open ("Ah" is fine, vowels for a lovely sound and some consonants for articulation are definitely recommended!). Students must tell the judge what pitch they would like to start the scale on.
Sing Backs
Sing Backs
All students will perform sing backs as part of the audition.
There will be 3-5 examples of increasing difficulty, each worth 1 point for a total of up to 5 points.
Examples will be prerecorded to ensure consistency across judges.
All patterns will be 3 tones in length.
All patterns will consist of either steps or small skips, no leaps.
Examples and additional guidelines from the District 1 website can be found HERE
Prepared Piece
Prepared Piece
The prepared pieces change on a two-year rotating basis. Students will sing the prepared piece from memory with the accompaniment in the appropriate key for the student's voice part. Students need to be able to tell the judge which key they would like for the accompaniment.
Adjustments may be made to a baritone's music to make it accessible to the boy's changing voice. The student should present a copy of what he is going to sing to the judge. Please do not violate any copyright laws when making that copy.
Humming is not allowed; students must use the lyrics.
The prepared piece will be Shenandoah (from Get America Singing) for the 2023-’24 school year
