Phillip Cooper

Phillip Cooper is a lifelong resident of Grant and is a 1984 graduate of KDS DAR High School where he played baseball and basketball and excelled in both sports. He learned to love sports from his parents, Billy Joe and Martha, who always supported him and his brother Michael.  After graduating high school, he officiated high school basketball for five years before turning his attention to supporting and working with the kids on the mountain. He has been an avid supporter of DAR athletics for over 40 years.

• Has coached youth basketball and softball for eight years.

• Has been the “Voice of the Patriots” for DAR Football as the Public Address Announcer since the inception of the program in 2005.

• Has announced starting lineups for DAR Basketball for the past 20 years.

• has written articles for the Advertiser-Gleam reporting for DAR football and basketball for the past 15 years.

• Has volunteered as an assistant coach for DAR Girls Basketball for 7 years.

• Has been a volunteer assistant coach for DAR Boys Basketball for the past 5 years.

• Has been a volunteer assistant coach for DAR Girls Softball for the past 3 years.

• Retired from NHTC in 2021 and now works at KDS DAR High School.

• He and his wife, Sandy, have been married 39 years and they have one daughter, Tanya.
