Melton finally chose Georgia for his college career but broke his leg in a North-South scrimmage ending his football career. The 160 pounder had been one of the most sought after backs of the year.

“He is one of the finest running halfbacks I’ve ever seen”, said North Head Coach Ernie Teel of Gadsden. “He has something you couldn’t teach a kid. He is just a natural.”

Kathy Mitchell, in nominating her father for the Hall of Fame, said, “This is based on his accomplishments on the playing field, as well as for his love of community and family.”
