Frank Reed

Frank Reed was a 6-foot-1, 200-pound All-State, All-Southern and All-American end at Albertville High School in 1950.

Frank was one of the most promising of the famous Reed brothers for Aggie football. He received a football scholarship to the University of Alabama. He entered school at the University in June of 1951. He was selected to play in the Alabama High School All-Star game in August of 1951. Reed received a knee injury in the game, ending his career as a player.

Frank was given the duties of student trainer. He was the freshman team trainer during the 1953 season. He was assistant athletic trainer during the 1954-1955 seasons. These duties included all athletic programs of the University of Alabama.

Graduating from Alabama in 1956, he then was an assistant for one year at Albertville. Frank spent most of his professional career in education as principal at Arab Middle School, assistant principal at Guntersville High School, vocational counselor for Marshall County Schools, and director of the Marshall Technical School and superintendent for Marshall County Schools. He retired in September 1998, after 29 years in education. He was elected as a member of the Marshall County Board of Education in 2000. Reed is currently serving in the third year of a six-year term.

Several years ago, in choosing an all-time great Aggie football team, the sportswriter Hal Hayes wrote of Reed’s selection, “Super end Frank Reed, without peer during his era - and even now.” Frank joins his brothers, Ralph and Neal, from the all-time Aggie team in the Marshall County Sports Hall of Fame.
