Dee Anne Ashley

Dee Anne Ashley was All-State cheerleader and captain of the cheerleading squad at Boaz High School from 1967-69.

A 1973 graduate of St. Bernard College, Ashley became the cheerleader coach at her alma mater in 1977 and led the squad to new heights. The Pirate cheerleaders were competitive early in her career, earning the team a national finalist spot in 1984.

The Boaz cheerleading squad won the National championship in 1996, 1997, and 2002 under Ashley’s guidance. The team has appeared on national television as a finalist five other times and has won numerous other awards bringing recognition to Alabama, Marshall County and Boaz. The group has finished first in the Southern Regionals 13 times and has been named the 5A State Champion five times.

Ashley served as president of the Alabama Cheer Association from 1997-99. She has been chosen five times to the national Who’s Who of High School Cheerleading Coaches. The Boaz Pirate cheering squad finished as a finalist in 2003 with Coach Ashley leading for the 27th year.
