Jim Bishop

This Boaz Pirate was a two-time All-County football and basketball star, plus an All-County baseballer one year. He had the honor of serving as team captain of all three sports (1966-1967). The Pirate baseball team won the county championship while he was serving as its captain. Jim was named to the 1967 All-Area tournament basketball team.

Jim Bishop continued as a football tight end with Tennessee Tech making honorable mention All-Ohio Valley Conference (1969-1970). The next season he was second team All-OVC and team captain. Bishop pitched baseball for Tech in 1970 compiling a 6-2 record.

Jim was an NFL fifth round draft choice of the San Diego Chargers in 1972. That same year, he was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs and finished out the year with the Houston Oilers as a tight end. In 1973, Jim was released by the Oilers. A new league was formed in 1974 and he joined the Birmingham Americans in winning the World Bowl Championship. The next year, the team was the Birmingham Vulcans with tight end Jim Bishop.

Today, Jim Bishop serves as community leader and successful businessman in Muscle Shoals. He is president of Jim Bishop Chevrolet, Buick, Olds, Pontiac & GMC and president of Jim Bishop Toyota.
