Blake Mozley was born on May 27, 1983, in Gadsden, Alabama, to Ken and Pam Mozley. Ken played football for Douglas High School and Pam was a cheerleader at Susan Moore. Blake also has a younger sister, Brooke Langley, who was also an outstanding multi-sport athlete at Douglas High School. She was a member of the Lady Eagles’ basketball team that went to the Final Four in 2003, played in the AHSAA State Golf Tournament, and also played softball.
While Blake is primarily known for his success in golf, he was an all-around athlete, playing basketball and baseball from the age of 10. He played varsity basketball at DHS under Coach Kirk Jonus and was on the 2001 team that reached the AHSAA Elite Eight. Blake was selected All-County in grades 10-12 and All-Area in grades 11 and 12.
Ken started taking Blake with him to the golf course when he was only eight years old and bought him his first set of clubs at nine. Due to his father’s encouragement, Blake learned the skills quickly and started playing competitive golf in the 7th grade. He joined the DHS golf team when he was in the 9th grade and was an All-Marshall County player in 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001. Blake became one of the most successful high school golfers in Marshall County history. He made the All-State Tournament Team all four years and was Sectional Low Medalist in 1998, State Runner-up in 2000, and State Champion in 2001.
In addition to AHSAA Tournaments, Blake became a regular in many State and National Tournaments. A brief summary of his accomplishments include the following: 2000 Alabama State Junior Amateur Runner-up; 1998-2000 North Alabama Junior Golf Association (NAJGA) Player of the Year with 3 first-place, 3 second-place and 3 fourth-place finishes; 1999 Southeastern Junior Golf Tour (SJGT) with 5 top ten finishes; and 2000 SJGT Player of the Year, winning 3 Tournaments and 4 top six finishes.
In 2000, prior to his senior year at DHS, Blake placed first at Hoover Country Club to qualify for the United States Golf Association (USGA) Junior Amateur Championship at Pumpkin Ridge in Portland, Oregon, where he placed 24th nationally. The Gadsden Times named Blake as 2001 Golfer of the Year. He signed a scholarship to play golf at the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) in 2001 and played in the NCAA Championship Tournament in 2002.
Blake is the owner of Mozley Flooring, Inc. in Albertville. He married Angel Rogers in 2009. She played basketball and volleyball at Geraldine High School and was a member of the State Champion volleyball team in 2000. They have two daughters. Maddie is 9 and Ellie is 11. Both play basketball, softball and volleyball. The family attends Lifepoint Church.
