Bill Jones

Bill Jones was an All-State performer at Marshall County High School from 1958 to 1962. He earned All-State and All-Region honors at Snead State, and All-Conference at Jacksonville State University.

Jones averaged 18.1 and 17.3 points per game in helping Jacksonville State to successive conference championships. He once set a school mark by connecting on 31 consecutive free-throw attempts.

Jones signed a baseball contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates, playing in the Bucs organization for one season.

He served as head basketball coach at the University of North Alabama (compiling a 28-17 record) and Jacksonville State University (with a 449-196 record). He retired as the all-time winningest coach in Jacksonville State University history. His 1985 team won the NCAA National Championship with a 31-1 record. He was named the Kodak National Coach of the Year and was three times the Gulf South Conference Coach of the Year.

Bill Jones has been inducted into the Jacksonville State University Athletic Hall of Fame and The American Softball Association (ASA) Hall of Fame.
