Since its inception in 1993, the DTC has expanded from one service/programme (to slow learners) to 6 types of services including an Early Intervention Programme (EIP) for those below the age of 6 years.

Services for youths and adults are provided through the Day Training Classes (DTC) Group 1 & 2 and a Social Club. There is also a DTC Workshop. These are based in St. Paul’s Church Hall.

For those who have completed the programme, employment support is provided, if and when needed.

(i) DTC Group 1 (Mondays & Thursdays, 9.30 am – 4.00pm)

These classes are for slow learners and those with mild learning disabilities. Students are aged 14 years and above. Classes are held twice a week, and the students “graduate” after 2 years. They are taught living, social, community and pre-vocational skills. Their programme also includes activities enjoyed by their peers e.g. outings, swimming, Bar-B-Q and camps. When a “graduate” does not have another place to move on to, he/she is allowed to continue to attend DTC classes so that he/she does not regress.

(ii) DTC Group 2 (Wednesday, 1.30 – 4.30 pm )

The Group 2 students have severe learning disabilities. One of the objectives is to provide the students with opportunities and experiences of a person their age. It is also an opportunity for the parents to have respite. Most trainees are accompanied by a carer.

Classes are held one afternoon a week (Wednesdays).

(iii) Employment Support

After the students graduate, they continue to be supported in open employment if and when necessary. The staff would try to source for employment, maintain good relationship with the employer and co-workers while helping the trainee to settle into the job and its environment.

(iv). DTC Workshop (Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Fridays, 9.30 am – 4.00 pm)

The Workshop was launched in August 2007 with 4 trainees. Work included making cards, craft and jewellery.

Under the Workshop, the Tabgha Training Café was launched on 22 Feb. 2008. The Café is held in the Coffee Terrace of Dewan St. Paul.

Trainees who are accepted to the Workshop programme are given a small salary including EPF and Socso contribution.

(v). The Social Club (1st Saturday of the month, 9.00 am – 12 noon)

The Social Club is for teens and adults with learning disabilities. It includes past and present trainees. The sessions are fun, emphasizing on interactive and social skills. programmes include a time of games, craft, singing and choices in food to eat. Day trips are also organized by the Social Club.
