ONLINE PSYCHOEDUCATION AND EXPERIENTIAL WORKSHOP FOR PEOPLE WITH EPILEPSY
Come and join us for the Epilepsy Community Workshop Project organised by USM-UPSI Clinical Psychology Program.
Find out what are the roles and duties of clinical psychologists, and why it is important to break the stigma towards seeking mental health treatments.
Learn techniques and skills related to coping with daily stressors and/or stressful life events.
Gain knowledge concerning mental health topics such as stress, depression and anxiety.

Malaysian Society of Epilepsy is participating in a Virtual Health Event organised and hosted by Charisma Movement. This 2-day event will feature a host of esteemed speakers, and discussions on a range of topics, including Mental Health, Community Health, Sexual & Women's Health, and Invisible Illnesses.
Dr Mohd Farooq Shaikh (Associate Professor Monash University & Executive Committee Member of Malaysian Society of Epilepsy) will be speaking about epilepsy, the lack of public awareness, and the challenges and stigma endured by people with epilepsy.
He will be joined by speakers from associations such as Psoriasis Association of Malaysia and Persatuan S.L.E Malaysia, for a session titled "Invisible Illnesses". There will also be a Q&A session at the end of the forum. Don't forget to check out the other sessions that are happening over the 2-day Virtual Health Event!

EPILEPSY ADVOCACY: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES
Monash University Malaysia, Congenica and Malaysian Society of Epilepsy had teamed up to run the webinar to understand the complexity of epilepsy not only in the medical condition itself but also within the socio-cultural perspectives that affect those living with the disorder.
The event is open for patients, caregivers, professionals, and advocates for epilepsy. Hear from the experts and patients as they share their knowledge and ideas to help bridge the treatment gaps and break the stigma surrounding epilepsy.

EPILEPSY AWARENESS & FIRST AID
Epilepsy Council Malaysia and PBSM (Malaysian Red Crescent Society) will be holding a session on epilepsy awareness for both primary and secondary school students, in conjunction with World First Aid Day!
"Be a First Aid Hero at School and in Your Community"
The event is online and registration and participation are free of charge.
The primary school session will be held in the morning and secondary in the afternoon.

We will be educating children and teenagers on what is epilepsy/seizures, what it looks like, the many different types of seizures (not all will involve jerking of the body), who can get them, what to do if you or your friends have a seizure attack at school, seizure first aid, and of course, myths and facts about epilepsy.
We aim at educating children and teenagers on epilepsy so that they know what it is and what to do if they see one of their friends having an attack, and eventually hoping that through education, we can reduce stigmatisation and discriminations against people with epilepsy.
We have been educating teachers through our yearly school awareness programme and this is the first time we are collaborating with PBSM. Talks and videos will be presented by Neurologists and Paediatric Neurologists from Epilepsy Council Malaysia.

IBE DAY AT THE 34TH INTERNATIONAL EPILEPSY CONGRESS
International Bureau of Epilepsy's IBE Day at the 34th International Epilepsy Congress will take place on Wednesday, 1st September 2021, from 7.00 PM MYT.
It consists of 3 two-hour virtual sessions on topical issues that affect the day-to-day lives of people living with epilepsy. The full six hour programme is free of charge for anyone interested in attending but prior registration is mandatory.
This event will cover topics including making epilepsy a national health priority - intersectional collaboration, empowering youth to raise their voices and best practices to address the psychosocial impact of epilepsy.
The programme promises to be an excellent event for people with epilepsy, their families and carers, IBE chapters and members. The attached programme includes a link to the registration system. Read More about IBE Day HERE.

Another IBE Golden Light Award will be presented at the 34th International Epilepsy Congress (IEC) on September 1st 2021. 19 candidates all over the world have been chosen to receive the award, including one of our own, Ms. Lai Siew Tim.
The Golden Light Awards are rewarded to young people either affected by epilepsy or have made a significant positive impact on the lives of others who have the condition. The name of the award signifies someone who espouses the spirit of IBE, which is to “bring epilepsy out of the shadows and into the light".
Congratulations to Ms. Lai Siew Tim and all the winners!

We are pleased to announce the great news that our Malaysian nominee for the International Bureau of Epilepsy IBE Golden Light Awards 2021 has been chosen as one of the six winners! Congratulations to Mr. Salim Baredhwan!
The Golden Light Awards are rewarded to young people either affected by epilepsy or have made a significant positive impact on the lives of others who have the condition. The name of the award signifies someone who espouses the spirit of IBE, which is to “bring epilepsy out of the shadows and into the light".
We hope his story and the rest of the award winners’ stories will inspire others to embrace their own epilepsy journeys. We look forward to seeing Salim be presented with his award at the IBE Epilepsy & Society Symposium on Sunday 13th June.

International Bureau of Epilepsy (IBE) and International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) welcome you to an online one-day programme, especially for people with epilepsy and their carers as part of the 13th Asian and Oceanian Epilepsy Congress!
IBE Epilepsy & Society Symposium is happening virtually on Sunday, 13 June 2021, and PEM is sponsoring limited spots (10 - 15 attendees) for our members!
"The Epilepsy & Society Symposium is taking place on Sunday 13 June as part of the 13th Asian and Oceanian Epilepsy Congress. It is a full day programme featuring topical issues that affect the day to day lives of those living with epilepsy particularly within the Asian Oceanian region. It is a great opportunity for people with epilepsy and their care providers to take part in a day of interactive discussion with speakers.
This virtual event will cover such matters as how people with epilepsy have been affected by the COVID pandemic, national and international driving laws and compares the daily lives of those living with epilepsy from different countries in the region.
Additionally, IBE’s Golden Light Awards will be bestowed on young people living with epilepsy in the region that have been a shining light and deserve special recognition; these remarkable awardees will also get the chance to share their stories..." Read More about IBE Day HERE

Priorities will be given to:
Persatuan Epilepsi Malaysia members with priority to epilepsy fighters and caregivers, followed by the general members.
Non-members with priority to epilepsy fighters and caregivers, followed by other non-members (students, researchers, medical professionals, general public).

EPILEPSY PATIENT AND CAREGIVER SYMPOSIUM 2021
PEM together with Epilepsy Council held its first Epilepsy Patient and Caregiver Symposium on the 18th of March. This was organised in conjunction with the 1st Malaysian Epilepsy Congress that happened virtually from the 18th - 21st March 2021.
We had over 300 participants joining us for the symposium. Thank you to everyone who joined in and helped us made the event a success!
