Janet Lee

In loving memory of  Janet Lee (1989 - 2023)

"Our collective hearts are heavy and saddened by the news of Artist Janet Lee's passing. We loss a great warrior that day, and her passing was deeply felt by all of us who knew her.

Janet was diagnosed with intractable epilepsy at a very young age, and in her teen years, she was diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Despite her struggles, she was a bright kid who loved school and had a keen desire to study, going from being illiterate to someone who could read and write.

Encountering naysayers who doubt her, Janet proved them wrong by working hard to get her diploma in Small Business Management. Not only that, she also turned her love and skills for art into a business, and was supporting herself as an international artist/colourist. She had her own gallery and a small studio. Meanwhile, her artwork was, and until today, continues to be exhibited all over the world.

Through her art ventures, she helped shed light on epilepsy significantly. Her achievements garnered her the Young Inspiring Women Award 2021. Her story has also been published in various print medias in Singapore and Malaysia

On a personal note, Janet and her mother, Joyce, actively supported the Society’s efforts by giving guidance, encouragement, and comfort to members of our community, for which we will be eternally grateful for.

I believe Janet's life story will continue to bring hope to other epilepsy fighters, and help them see that, with perseverance and support, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Janet will be greatly missed but her spirit and determination to live life to the fullest, no matter what, will be remembered forever."
