Mr. Yushu CHEN

I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Food Science from Zhejiang University, China. With enthusiasm in basic research, I joined Dr. Chng Shu Sin’s lab in Department of Chemistry, National University of Singapore in July 2016. My work is to understand the metabolism and transport of mycolic acid in mycobacteria. I am currently working on a collaborative project with Dr. Guan’s lab, trying to characterize the accumulation of a putative mycolic acid species in a trehalose auxotrophic strain of Mycobacterium smegmatis. I hope my work can contribute to infectious disease treatment by identifying novel drug targets and elucidating mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance. Apart from reading papers, sports and music are what I enjoy during my leisure time.
