Dr. Ooiean TENG

I received my PhD in virology from the University of Hong Kong at the HKU-Pasteur Research Pole and Centre of Influenza Research, one of the worldwide leading research centres on influenza virus and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) virus. My PhD project focused on discovering a novel host factor which contributes to the pathogenicity of influenza viruses, particularly on the host immune response upon infection. I also worked on projects investigating in the impact on the mutation on influenza virus which leads to drug-resistance and increases in its transmissibility. Eager to remain in the academic field upon graduation, I took up a new challenge by pursuing my postdoctoral research at Dr. Xue Li Guan’s team in year 2016 and continue my research interest in the field of infectious diseases and immunity. I am ready to contribute my knowledge, experience and skills that I have gained to my upcoming research on tuberculosis, aiming to discover the novel tuberculosis determinants of virulence and therefore provide new insight to tuberculosis drug development.
