Mr P.S. Pandiyan

I am a Year 2 Undergraduate student at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. I have been given the opportunity to work as part of Asst. Prof. Guan’s team to elucidate the role of lipids in antimicrobial resistance and virulence of Staphylococcus aureus, under NTU’s Undergraduate Research Experience on Campus (URECA) Programme. Drug resistant strains of S. aureus such as Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) are plaguing hospitals all around the world and this project allows me to learn about what can be done to stop this from happening. I believe this journey into the field of lipidomics will impart in me knowledge of laboratory techniques, collegiality in working with my fellow researchers, a clinical perspective of the factors contributing to drug resistance in microbes and a framework for combating drug resistance in S. aureus.
