More Spanish content and materials for you Spanish freaks out there!!!

Every semester students come up to me and ask, "where can I get more materials in Spanish?" They want everything from books to movies, to music. Well, if you're a Spanish freak, this page is for you!

Below you will find links and the descriptions of these links that are designed to help you to become exposed to more Spanish in your daily life. Get ready for music, video clips, books and much much more. Check back here often as, this site particularly, is always changing and expanding.

The links below along with their descriptions will help you locate the wealth of Spanish content available to you on the Internet. There's bound to be a link or two that's just right for you!

General Yavapai College Spanish Sites

      • Choose Your Spanish Name--This site has many Spanish names if you are struggling to find one. Remember your Spanish name should begin with the same letter as your own given name. "K" "H" "W" are very rare in Spanish, so you might want to find a name that begins with "C" if you are a "K" person or find something totally new and different if you are a "W" or "H" person.

      • Online Workbook Log-in

    • --For SPA 101-202, use this link to log-in to your online workbook and, (for SPA 202), lab manual.

    • --(SPA 101-SPA 202) If you are having difficulties setting up or using your online Spanish workbook, click on the link. On this webpage you will see a video and/or graphic images that show you how to set up your workbook innitially or to begin a new class if you already purchased a workbook from a previous semester.

    • --I record the grammar lectures that I give in class outside of class on video. If you are ever absent, or simply didn't understand something important, you can click here and watch the grammar topic explained in my sweet monotone. Ahhh, the beauties of online video streaming!

    • --This site tells you how you can take a placement test in order to begin your Spanish study here at YC at a more advanced level, in order to challenge yourself more. Consider taking this test for free to avoid beginning classes in SPA 101 (you might want to begin in SPA 102 or 201 for example). Especially consider taking this test if you have studied abroad or have extensive experience in Spanish from high school or other institutions of learning. Also includes information about CLEP testing.

    • --This site has tons and tons of grammar and vocab exercises to directly accompany your textbook. The link will take you to chapter one exercises, but click on the pull down menu at left above where the word "quizzes" appears and you can choose any chapter in our book to work on.

    • --Here you can watch all of the videos associated with our textbook. Lots of great listening practice.

    • --(SPA101-202) If you practice with your textbook at home, in addition to the online workbook, it may be helpful for you to have the answers to the exrecises that are included within the textbook. We also utilize these exercises frequently in class. This link will take you to the Puntos en breve website and to a page that prompts you to dowload the entire book's answer key.

    • --This site tries to help you determine whethere a foreign language is required for your major if you are going on to UofA, ASU or NAU. If you are not going to one of these schools, contact the institution directly.

    • --If you need help with the technology used in your Spanish course or if you have questions click here on our Frequently Asked Questions/HELP page and you'll find what you need.     • General Spanish Information at YC--This page talks about each course that YC offers, upcoming courses, typical profiles of learners and their motivations for taking Spanish, etc.

      • --Great practice for working on whether to use the subjunctive or not in manipulations, emotional reactions and doubt environments.

      • --Here is my example of the webpage project (to inspire you). If you're not yet inspired, check out this directory of other students' web pages.

      • --This is a website to accompany our SPA 125 textbook. Lots of great practice as well as audio listening files.

General Materials

    • --A site dedicated to helping Spanish students do better in their Spanish classes. There are quizzes, exercises, verb conjugation charts, flash cards and much much more. Most of the materials are free.

    • --A website dedicated to teaching about Spanish language and about the rich cultural history of hispanic people. Everything is free and there are tons of exercises, cultural readings and popular Spanish music.

    • --Scroll down until you see "Online activities" and you will be presented with many many grammar and vocabulary activities that will test your Spanish knowledge. Best part is, these activities are directly related with our "Ante Todo" chapter, all the way up to chapter four of Puntos en Breve. Some of these exercises have some errors as they were created by graduate students at Norther Arizona University.

    • --Similar to the games described above, but this page contains chapters five through nine. Lots of great activities perfect to help you review for quizzes and tests. Remember, scroll down until you see "online activities".

    • --The professor at Trent University has compiled a multitude of exercises over the years. They mostly focus on listening and the vocabulary of certain situations, for example, in a restaurant.

    • --This site has tons and tons of grammar and vocab exercises to directly accompany your textbook. The link will take you to chapter one exercises, but click on the pull down menu at left above where the word "quizzes" appears and you can choose any chapter in our book to work on.

    • --Here you can watch all of the videos associated with our textbook. Lots of great listening practice.

    • --This is one of my favorite Spanish sites on the Internet. All the content is free from the University of Texas--Austin. Many videos are listed with text in English and Spanish. Native Spanish speakers from all over the world talk about a variety of topics. Just click on "Beginning", "Intermediate" or "Advanced" and start listening.

    • --This is a Spanish study program in its entirety. You could easily drop out of my class and just do this program (but please don't; I think we'll have fun together). The program uses a soap opera (telenovela) to teach grammatical, lexical and cultural lessons. Give it a try! I think you'll like it!

    • --This site is called Lo Mas TV and it gives you tons and tons of opportunities to interact with Spanish pop culture in the context of learning Spanish. It's a very good site, but costs some money to subscribe to some of the material. Many students love this site if you're willing to shell out some dinero.

    • --This is a site that I created to help my students get more reading and listening practice. Go to the site and look for "quizzes" then click on either listening or reading. There are over sixty quizzes. The reading quizzes instruct you to read a short story or aritcle and then answer questions about it. The listening quizzes instruct you to watch an authentic Spanish video or audio clip and then answer questions about it. Tons of practice for yall. This is the same company that administers your online workbook.

    • --Conjugates any Spanish verb into any and every tense. Great for studying before quizzes and tests.

    • --Multiple language dictionary. One of the best out there Spanish/English, English/Spanish dictionaries out there. Also has links to a Spanish/Spanish dictionary.

    • --Another Spanish/Enlgish, English/Spanish dictionary.

    • --This page teaches you how to make universal accent marks using the alt and number keys. Remember, hit ctrl + shift + plus or minus sign to rotate a PDF document.

    • --A free and well established test to see where you're at in Spanish. Give it a shot and find out where you stand and where you could improve.

Other Spanish Directories

    • --Mr. Reynolds on the YC Verde Campus has compiled a number of Speaking, Reading and other resources for your Spanish pleasure. Look for the tabs that contain the content that most interests you.

    • --This site has it all. Everything from free online Spanish literature, to study abroad, to finding jobs for Spanish speakers (sometimes out of the country jobs). This site has all the resources you need that are in any way related to Spanish.

    • --This site is totally dedicated to listing other Spanish site and has more information than any other site I've found on the web. If you want something related to Spanish, odds are good that this professor emeritus of the University of Norhter Iowa has found it. It really is the biggest thing I've ever seen.

    • --This site is in Spanish with tons and tons of country by country information. Good for reports or for just catching up on the histories of the countries that you love.

News and Popular Culture Sites

    • --All news, all in Spanish, all the time.

    • --If you like Brits, and Spanish, this is the site for you.

    • --This is an all Spanish news network that focuses on the Spanish speakers living in the U.S. and in Mexico.

    • --Run by MSN and similar to Univision. You can get national news in Spanish this way.

    • --Argentine Nespaper site. Lots of videso in the beautiful Argentine accent.

    • --Another Argentine newspaper site. Videos, radio, muchas cosas.

    • --This is Music Television in Spanish. If you like that sort of thing.

    • --This is a site totally dedicated to Spanish music. Lots of videos and other materials you might love. Give it a shot.

    • --A site dedicated to Spanish music, TV and other media with a U.S. emphasis.

    • --Online and in Spanish. Enough said. I am not responsible for the content displayed on this link. :0)

    • --If you like the NFL, you'll love it in Spanish.

    • --Great if you have kids that you want to get into Spanish. Lot's of interactive learning games conducted in Spanish which is great for kids that are trying to learn two languages. Adults like it too.

    • --ESPN in Spanish. They give an inordinate amount of attention to soccer as you might imagine, but great practice if you're a sports lover.

    • --Some full length Mickey Mouse, Goofy and Donald cartoon content in Spanish.

Yavapai College Official Sites that Might Interest or Inform You

    • --Go here when you want to log-in and access BlackBoard at YC. There are tutorials here as well if you have never used blackboard before.

    • Learning Center (Spanish tutoring available)--Learn about when the Learning Center is open and find out about the services this center provides. Every semester Spanish tutoring is available.

    • Important Dates--This site gives you a list of some of the important dates here at YC. Everything from holidays to the last days to add/drop a class are included. Click the link, then choose the correct semester from the list on the right.

    • --This site allows you to go straight to the log-in screen to check your YC email from home, that is, if you know your username and password.

    • --Already registered but forget your YC username and password in order to log-in to the computers? Don't sweat it. Click on the link and they'll lead you through the process to recover your password and username.

    • --You can easily find the correct book for your course at YC if you click on the link and go to the YC Bookstore. After finding your book you may want to buy it on Amazon.com or some other site that sells them cheaper.

    • --Did you know that Yavapai College has an official Spanish page? I didn't either, but here it is.

    • --This is a good site to inform you about how transfering language classes works in AZ. This site also hints at whether you will need to take Spanish or another foreign language in your near future as a requirement for your degree.

    • --This page holds a PDF file that has tons and tons of facts about YC in general
