My Take on the Online Spanish Workbook and How it’s Graded

When it comes to grading the online Spanish workbook, the computer is extremely picky; I, however, am not. If you leave off a period or other punctuation marks, the workbook will likely mark you wrong. I don’t care that much. I know that it can be frustrating to complete an activity correctly and with confidence, submit it and then look at the results and see that the computer marked you off for a capitalization error. Some would go back and re-complete the whole exercise, but for me, the important thing is that you understand the target Spanish concept. Don’t go back and re-do the entire exercise just to rectify silly errors. However, if you are totally lost on an exercise and don’t understand why you did poorly, then you need to re-complete the exercise. In these circumstances, you need to go back and review your Puntos en breve textbook, or watch the corresponding grammar video, or get in touch with me, your instructor. So, to allow for some errors, this is how I grade the online Spanish workbook. If you get a 70% on the exercise, I give you full credit. Mistakes are good when learning a language, you have to make a lot of them before you are going to get better, but, keep in mind that the eventual goal is perfection. So, if you complete all or nearly all of the exercises with a score of 70% or better, I typically will give you full points (usually ten points). If you complete a majority of the exercises, I give you about half points (typically about five or six points). If you complete just a few exercises, I’ll give you just a few points (typically one or two). That’s my take on the Online Spanish Workbook.

How do I know which assignments are assigned to me and the due dates?--For due dates concerning the online Spanish workbook be sure to see the syllabus' tentative course plan. To understand which of the exercises is "assigned" for completion, see the explanation and image below:

This images shows black dots next to every activity but one, "3.4B: Maria Montano". This means that in the Ch. 3, "Un poco de todo" section, all of the activities are assigned, but one, "Maria Montano".
