We all should develop the habit of washing our cars often and not waiting for pranksters to scrawl “wash me” letters on your dust-caked windows. It goes without saying that a good-looking, regularly washed car will last longer and let you better increase its trade-in or resale value.
Washing your vehicle protects it from various contaminants that stick to the exterior such as pollen, mud, dirt, bird droppings, splattered bugs, and other air-borne pollutants. Most auto experts will recommend that any automobile be washed at least once a week, as prolonged presence of contaminants may ruin the car’s paint job and finish.
It’s not even a matter of generating more upkeep costs, as many commercial car wash facilities offer great, sometimes unlimited cleaning deals for a given monthly fee. If you prefer to do it on your own, the number of times you wash your car will depend on factors like how frequent you drive your car and the respective distance, the terrain, the location and weather in your area, and how you store your car (for example, whether you just leave it under a tree or inside your garage).
All in all, we suggest doing the washing at least weekly, especially because the heat the car generates alongside alternating cold and hot weather can accelerate the damage and corrosion that develop on both the vehicle’s protective wax and paint. An ounce of prevention indeed holds so much more proverbial weight, as far as your car’s good looks and longevity are concerned.
