Electric cars have been a dream for several decades now. Many attempts have been made to develop and create an electric car for mass production; however, they’ve never been as close as today. With Elon Musk’s Tesla at the forefront, companies such as Volvo and Volkswagen have announced their own projects for the future. What’s more is that the governments of several countries, notably India, France, and China have shared their long-term plans to stop the selling of petrol and diesel altogether.
So, aside from the obvious environmental benefits of electric cars, what other advantages do they hold for the world? Below are two major benefits.
Decrease in the usage of oil: This will come as good news, especially for those who believe that they’ve already gone past peak oil. Projections are that by 2030, cars will be mostly electric, and the 100 million barrels of oil used a day will be slashed by 30 percent. This bodes well, especially for those who believe the planet may not have enough oil to survive the next century.Shift in employment: Since fewer people are needed in manufacturing electric cars, countries need to prepare. Around 600,000 workers will be losing their jobs. However, because machines will be used to create electric cars, the new industry will need people to assemble robotic parts. While this is still up for debate, the shift in employment seems a right step in the improvement of the nature of labor.
