"Turtleback Tombs" is a short story written by OSHIRO Tatsuhiro. The story takes place in Okinawa, during WWII. When Okinawa comes under attack, Grandma Ushi and Grandpa Zentoku take their family to their ancestors' tombs for refuge. While hiding in the tombs, they make the best of their circumstances and try to keep the deceased happy. Eventually, Zentoku and Eitaro - the boyfriend of Zentoku's daughter - must go out in order to get more food. This results in Zentoku getting killed, and Eitaro attempting to support the rest of the family on his own. The story ends shortly after, with soldiers encroaching on the tombs.
