"The Island of Eternal Life" is a short story written by TAWADA Yoko. It takes place in the future, many years after the 3.11 incident. A Japanese woman who had been living in Germany describes her impression of the current state of Japan, which has been cut off from the rest of the world. Rumors that the young are frail while the elderly may never die are circulating. Even though the narrator has not visited Japan in many years, she is still approached with much hesitation, due to fears of radiation poisoning.
