Swing Girls

Swing Girls is a film directed by YAGUCHI Shinobu. Set in the Tohoku Region, it tells the story of a group of girls who are in a remedial math course over the summer. After accidentally causing their school's band to fall ill, they begin to train as a substitutes. Just as they begin making progress, the band recovers and dismisses them from needing to substitute. At first, the girls act relieved and claim they were only helping out in order to skip math class. As time goes on, they realize that they truly enjoyed making music, and attempt to put their own jazz band together. It takes a tremendous amount of effort for them to raise money and support, but they are eventually able to purchase instruments and get good enough to perform at a local music festival.
