Has anyone decided what departing gift to give their student(s)? Some ideas I have heard, and have had myself are: cowboy hat, San Antonio t-shirt (they have some that change color when exposed to light), photo in a frame/photo collage, poster of San Antonio, ... Does anyone have any other ideas they'd care to share? Thanks! -Melanie
Hi All! This is Melanie. On Saturday the 19th, I will be out of town, and Yannis has a UIL competition. My husband will have to transport Yannis there and back. Kentaro can stay at our house with our other son (also a teen), and may enjoy a chance to stay put for a day, but in case he’d prefer to do something, I am wondering what other families are doing that day, and whether anyone would be willing to have Kentaro join them for at least part of the day. My husband should be able to bring him somewhere and come and pick him up too.
The hosting schedule is really tight and as many shadow dates as possible were built in and still allowing them time to rest and participate in off campus activities. ISA and Takayama Nishi are also moving forward to have our students interact. There are a couple of lab days to help the students learn the web site. Visiting students were also asked what classes they might like to see while they are here. We will do everything that we can to meet those wishes.
If any of you have looked at the tentative schedule that was emailed today, you'll see that our host brothers and sisters are tentative to shadow us during 4th-7th period only. I was really looking forward to having my sister shadow with me all day. They are busier than us when we went to Japan. I didn't think they would be so busy.
Oh well. I suppose possibly shadowing 4th-7th is better than not shadowing at all.
It turns out that both Yannis (ISA student) and myself (Melanie) will not be available on Saturday, Feb 19th to accompany or entertain our exchange student, Kentaro. My husband will have to take Yannis to his UIL competition, and I will be out of town. Yannis' brother will be around, so Kentaro would not be home alone. But I think it would be better if we had something arranged for him to do at least part of the day. Is anyone planning a group activity that day which our student, Kentaro, can join?
Guests will eat lunch on campus with their host brother or sister some times and for one or two days they will need to bring a bag lunch. Check the schedule for those days.
What does my guest do for lunch when he or she is on campus? Pamela Valentine
