Medical Benefits Seminars & Roundtable
Tuesday, November 5th, Wednesday, November 6th
and Tuesday, November 12th, 2013
IBM Harborview/Rocky Point Facility
As most of you know, the IBM offered Medical, Dental and Eye Care plans for Medicare-eligible retirees will discontinue starting 1/1/2014. Instead, IBM will fund a Health Retirement Account (HRA) for each retiree and we must work with Extend Health (a private health insurance exchange) to pick the right plans and effectively use HRA funds. In view of this significant change, your Retiree Council has decided that we must continue to offer seminars as in the past but with a modified format.
For Medicare eligible single retirees and couples, we will hold three sessions instead of two. To provide an effective forum for information exchange, we will limit each session to a maximum of 60 participants. Once a session is filled, it will be closed but you can enroll in an alternative session. Anyone new to Medicare or attending for the first time should attend the first session on Nov 5.
For a non-Medicare eligible spouse of a Medicare eligible retiree, there will be one seminar on November 12. The focus of this seminar will be on the continuation of IBM insured plans for the retiree’s non-Medicare eligible spouse. In this situation, the IBM insured plans continue until the spouse becomes eligible for Medicare and also acquires benefits through Extend Health.
The last seminar, at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, November 12, is a roundtable discussion for non-Medicare eligible retirees.
The schedule for the sessions follows:
Single or married retiree Medicare eligible & spouse eligible: Nov 5, 10:00am to 12 noon
(Introduction to Medicare)
Single or married retiree Medicare eligible & spouse eligible: Nov 6, 10:00am to 12 noon
Single or married retiree Medicare eligible & spouse eligible: Nov 12, 10:00am to 12 noon
Non-Medicare eligible spouse of a Medicare eligible retiree: Nov 12, 12:30pm to 2pm
Retiree non-Medicare eligible, roundtable discussion: Nov 12, 2:00pm to 3pm
Please sign up for your choice of sessions at the website www.ITBRC.org or call Susan Grzybowski (813-810-6127) or Ron Rosenblatt (813-528-1164). Please indicate which session you will attend and include your name and a phone number in case we need to contact you for any changes in the schedule. Thanks and we look forward to your participation.

Navigating Today’s Financial Landscape
Tuesday, October 15th
IBM Harborview/Rocky Point Facility
The 2013 Financial Seminar is structured to provide an economic and market update along with a focus on the realities of income generation in this low interest rate environment. What are some of the pitfalls of investing in bond funds, individual bonds, international stock markets, annuities, etc. and how can one shape their portfolio to manage investment risk and attain their income needs? These questions will shape the seminar presentation and discussion. Eric Longphee will be our speaker for this seminar. He was Director of Equity Research for ten years and has been a financial advisor for the past thirteen years. He also teaches Financial Planning for USF via their Osher LifeLong Learning Institute (OLLI) and formerly taught Investing and the Markets in St. Petersburg at the Raymond James Global Headquarters. We are honored to have Mr. Longphee join us this year.
Consistent with all our seminar topics, our focus will be on education and awareness for our Retiree Club attendees, with time for your questions to be discussed.
