Dear Fellow Retiree,

We hope you had a nice summer and are doing well.

Our events earlier this year were successful and well-received:

  • Day at the Races at Tampa Bay Downs was held on April 5. The event went well thanks to the meticulous planning by Judy Manowitz. This event continues to gain popularity.
  • Spring Golf Outing at Club Renaissance in Sun City was held on May 5. Dianne Hartt and Donna Fryza continue to do a great job of making this an enjoyable event for all those who participate.

We are sorry we had to cancel our planned Tax Update due to a last minute health emergency.

Flyers are attached for the following upcoming Fall events:

  • Navigating Today’s Financial Landscape Seminar – Tuesday, September 30.

By popular demand, Eric Longphee will be returning as the speaker. Eric is an excellent speaker with a wealth of experience in financial planning. He also teaches financial classes for retirees at USF.

  • Fall Golf Outing at Club Renaissance in Sun City, Monday, October 6.

Because of the success of Spring Outing, we have decided to stay with the same venue.

Your Registration form with payment must be received by September 26. Please note that the

event will be held “rain or shine.”

We are tentatively scheduling the Medical Benefits seminars for November 11 and November 12. However, we don’t have any information from IBM or OneExchange to be able to plan on the content or the format at this time. We are hoping the majority of the changes are behind us and it will be easier for many of you to make your selections working with OneExchange. As we finalize plans, we will send another e-mail in the first week of October with a flyer and registration information. In the meantime, if you have any suggestions, please contact us.

Your Florida IBM Club is sponsoring the sale of  “Entertainment 2015 Coupon Book.” Books are $30 each

(retail for $35) for the Tampa Bay area and can be purchased online through December 31, 2014 by logging on to the IBM Connections website or through the retiree website www.itbrc.org  under IBM Club Discounts. You may also contact Donna Fryza, our Florida IBM Club Rep at 813-356-5050 or at dmfryza@us.ibm.com.

Please keep in mind that all of our communications to you are through mass e-mails and our retiree website (www.itbrc.org). If you are changing your email, address, or phone number or want to verify your registration, please make sure you enter changes using the website Registration feature or send changes to itbrc.reg@gmail.com.

                 Medical Benefits Seminars & Roundtable

Tuesday, November 5th, Wednesday, November 6th

and Tuesday, November 12th, 2013

IBM Harborview/Rocky Point Facility

As most of you know, the IBM offered Medical, Dental and Eye Care plans for Medicare-eligible retirees will discontinue starting 1/1/2014. Instead, IBM will fund a Health Retirement Account (HRA) for each retiree and we must work with Extend Health (a private health insurance exchange) to pick the right plans and effectively use HRA funds. In view of this significant change, your Retiree Council has decided that we must continue to offer seminars as in the past but with a modified format.

For Medicare eligible single retirees and couples, we will hold three sessions instead of two. To provide an effective forum for information exchange, we will limit each session to a maximum of 60 participants. Once a session is filled, it will be closed but you can enroll in an alternative session. Anyone new to Medicare or attending for the first time should attend the first session on Nov 5.

For a non-Medicare eligible spouse of a Medicare eligible retiree, there will be one seminar on November 12. The focus of this seminar will be on the continuation of IBM insured plans for the retiree’s non-Medicare eligible spouse. In this situation, the IBM insured plans continue until the spouse becomes eligible for Medicare and also acquires benefits through Extend Health.

The last seminar, at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, November 12, is a roundtable discussion for non-Medicare eligible retirees.

The schedule for the sessions follows:

Single or married retiree Medicare eligible & spouse eligible:      Nov 5, 10:00am to 12 noon

    (Introduction to Medicare)

Single or married retiree Medicare eligible & spouse eligible:      Nov 6, 10:00am to 12 noon

Single or married retiree Medicare eligible & spouse eligible:      Nov 12, 10:00am to 12 noon

Non-Medicare eligible spouse of a Medicare eligible retiree:        Nov 12, 12:30pm to 2pm

Retiree non-Medicare eligible, roundtable discussion:                   Nov 12, 2:00pm to 3pm

Please sign up for your choice of sessions at the website www.ITBRC.org or call Susan Grzybowski (813-810-6127) or Ron Rosenblatt (813-528-1164). Please indicate which session you will attend and include your name and a phone number in case we need to contact you for any changes in the schedule. Thanks and we look forward to your participation.

Navigating Today’s Financial Landscape

These questions will shape the seminar presentation and discussion. Eric Longphee will be our speaker for this seminar. He was Director of Equity Research for ten years and has been a financial advisor for the past thirteen years. He also teaches Financial Planning for USF via their Osher LifeLong Learning Institute (OLLI) and formerly taught Investing and the Markets in St. Petersburg at the Raymond James Global Headquarters.
