President's Letter
Dear Members,
Once again, I’m reminding you to write songs regarding the time of year. It dawns on me
that I cannot think of a fall season song; can you? It seems like spring, summer, and
winter have been done, but not autumn. I’d like to see one of you do it. I think the song
might get some attention.
I want you all to know how much I enjoyed our show at Beardall. Those of you who performed
sounded very professional. It got me thinking about past shows. Member Susan Foster-
Trewick got other ISG members to participate in a spring show back in 2002. And we had
lots of fun with our live appearances at two Central Florida Fairs. You may remember that
Art Cappuccio and Jordan Michaels came across like Broadway stars.
On another topic, I think our newsletter bulletin board is underused, don’t you? Please,
if you think of something you’d like to advertise like the sale of an instrument or a
coming performing appearance, let’s put that information in the newsletter so everyone
knows about it. It helps get the word out and increases your exposure and also the
guild’s.
Do come Sunday and bring your latest composition. This is what we’re all about. I hope to
see you Sunday. Best ever,
Russ
After the Show
By Matt Griffin
For those of you who missed it, our August 2nd show at Beardall Senior Center really went
well, at least in my opinion. We had a decent-sized crowd of about 55 people, not counting
the performers themselves. I think they enjoyed themselves for the most part; I heard
mostly positive comments from audience members and the performers themselves.
The performers all did a terrific job. Congratulations to Patti Locke, Bob Witmer, Jeff
Mason, Will Campbell, Susan Foster-Trewick, myself, Asli Goncer, Kristen Bruno, Jeri
Simpson, and Melanie Fisher for their fine efforts. We also should acknowledge our
president Russ Robinson, who provided his usual effortless piano accompaniment several
times during the show.
I do want to thank a few people who assisted in other ways in making the show a success.
Certainly Melanie Fisher went above and beyond, showing up early and setting up her first-
rate sound equipment, acting as our sound engineer during the show, and then staying late
to break it down and pack it up. Jeff Mason also came early and helped Melanie with the
setup. Also a big thank you to Jeri Simpson for putting together a very attractive (and
tasty) refreshment table, and to others including Jacque Fain who helped Jeri set up and
then pack up. Forgive me if I’m forgetting some of you who helped out; all of your efforts
are greatly appreciated.
My hope is to make this an annual event, if everyone is interested in doing so. I emailed
Cheryl, the manager of Beardall, to ask her if we could have that excellent ballroom again
next August and beyond. I haven’t heard back yet, but I can’t imagine being turned down;
we put on a good show, charged no admission, and cleaned up after ourselves.
I’m still rather pumped about the show, if you hadn’t already figured that out. I’d like
to find a way to keep that energy going for a while. Anyone have any ideas? Perhaps we
could have some kind of music seminar at one of our meetings, or do something else as a
group. If you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear them.
Again, good show, everyone.
