We are sorry to inform you that ISG member Bill Frank passed away on May 18th
from heart failure. He was a wonderful Songwriter, and won many of the ISG song
contests.
We will miss him and his sense of humor. In recent years he had attended many
open mics, and you can most likely find videos on Facebook of his performances.
We are asking members to renew their dues for 2022. It costs only $5 per year,
and it helps us to defray costs for the zoom meetings.
We have 2 methods of payment. Either paypal to our treasurer Asli Goncer's
paypal account. The paypal access is at aslivision@gmail.com
or you can mail a $5 check to
Asli Goncer

Either way, we appreciate your continued support.
Is it Over? #2

My title is a reference to the pandemic. The answer to my question is probably no. I had a difficult time finding songwriters’ camps that are open for live attendance. I’m not sure if my search terms were correct. The experts are suggesting another wave of the virus this summer and fall. We are all a little shaken by the events of the last couple of years. There’s a war in Ukraine that’s affecting gas prices and that is in turn raising the costs. It’s a double whammy to an already damaged music business.
Nevertheless, I am going to review some more songwriting getaways. On my wish list is Rodney Crowell’s “It Starts With A Song” songwriter camp.
https://rodneycrowellsitstartswithasong.com
It takes place on August 25th at 3pm at the historic Scarrit-Bennett Center in Nashville, Tennessee. “Songwriters and musicians of all skill levels, ages and musical interests are welcome.” It comes with several very cool advantages. The teaching staff is stellar and with name recognition including Rodney, Roseanne Cash, Patty Griffin and Lera Lynn. It’s in Nashville and you will be near music row and the historic RCA Studio B where “Heartbreak Hotel” was recorded. The campus looks beautiful. Of special interest to me would be the mere presence of Lera Lynn. Her music has fascinated me since 2014 and her appearance in “True Detective.” I guess being a little star struck can be a factor. You must be fully vaccinated and follow all camp protocols. Do check the link!
Maybe a trip to Canada could suit your agenda. Toronto Songwriting School has a 4 night Summer Songwriting Camp taking place at a 5 acre retreat in Ontario, August 3 -7. There aren’t as many celebrity teachers but it’s reasonably priced. It looks like a restful place to leave your cares behind and concentrate on your music. No distractions which, for me, means no lawnmower! They have been known to have camps elsewhere but this seems to be the only camp for this year.
https://www.songwritergetaways.com/songwriter-summer-camp-2022/ Camp activities include open mic, yoga, arts and crafts and wine tasting. They have a busy agenda and from the photos of past camps it looks like a good time.
Last month I told you about Richard Thompson’s Frets and Refrains and Steve Earle’s Camp Copperhead. Both are held at The Full Moon Resort in Big Indian NY. Here is a link with a full itinerary for the summer at The Full Moon.

I had been hoping to fill you in on what hot producer, engineer and mixer Ronan Chris Murphy was up to but again the retreat in the West Virginia mountains has fallen victim to the uncertainty created by the pandemic. http://recordingretreat.com
I’ll let you know when the camps are running again. Meanwhile you may go to this link and get his book for just $5.00. “Audio Recording Boot Camp: Recording Essays And Articles.”
I’ve attended three of his seminars and he knows his craft. I continue to be in awe of his listening skills.
I am realizing that virtual is here to stay for the foreseeable future. I have decided to stay home this summer. I have the names of several on line courses including Robin Frederick’s inspiring lessons. https://robinfrederick.com and Fett and Nancy Moran’s classes are very good http://azaleamusic.com/programs/
Well that’s all I have this month. Still roaming the halls of the Tower of Song. Stay safe everyone.
