After-School Programs

The Beacon Program at I.S. 93

Operated by the Greater Ridgewood Youth Council (GRYC), our Beacon program's mission is to provide a safe haven for children of the community. Located in I.S. 93, the Beacon hopes to enhance the educational experience received throughout the school day by concentrating not only on the academic aspect of the students but also on their social development. Working closely with I.S. 93, our goal is to enrich the lives of each participant by providing a plethora of activities to choose from. These activities establish opportunities for empowerment and skill building, integration of family and community support. The activities cover 5 core areas important to youth development:

Academic Enhancement

Career Awareness/School to Work Transition

Life Skills

Community Building

Recreation

In addition, the Beacon hopes to serve the community and its adult population by providing classes and events that will benefit their daily lives. We aim to provide services that address the needs and concerns of the community to obtain future success.
