The Mahkhai Initiative is a Global Defense Force project that grew out of Project Aithre. The GDF's original mission from 11 years ago utilized prototype power armor, adapted to draw energy from Geodes and renamed Aithre Armor. After Erebos was defeated, work progressed and developed new ways to adapt the basic design to be more effect, and large mecha were created. The Makhai, named after Greek gods of battle, were created to be not just an exoskeleton, but a large machine that enhanced the body's mental and physical strength and channeled this to power itself, as well as focusing and magnifying the effects of Geode use.
Makhai are based on a general design and are further adapted to fit the needs and abilities of their designated pilots. Each possesses a system that draws power from a Geode and focuses it into its weapon systems. Specialists who are trained in Geode use and Geode interface systems work on the Makhai to fine-tune this system, since it is where the mech gets its primary power, but also because its weapon systems are effective primarily because they utilize magical forces. The Makhai were specifically designed to combat Major and Minor Erebos Spawn, which are difficult to take down without magic.
Unfortunately, most humans are unable to interface fully with the Makhai, since they cannot sufficiently draw on the Geodes' power. During the development of mech technology, it became clear that special training would be required in order to operate the Makhai. A new team was formed to study the requirements of the technology and devise a training system that would adequately prepare pilots, resulting in the creation of MAP. The two teams have continued to communicate, altering the training simulation design as needed and customizing the Makhai systems based on what has been learned from the training process.
MAP is considered a part of the Makhai Initiative, and both are overseen by Colonel Davis Eberhart. He is responsible for setting up project missions and overseeing overall progress, and, as the commanding officer for the Makhai pilots, they will report directly to him.
