Dynicia covers the eastern part of the continent, bounded in the east by the Thulan Ocean and the west by the Oreith Mountains. This was the first part of Boreas to be settled; the original colony was located in Iren, which was the nation's capital until it moved north to Kion some centuries later.
Major cities:
Kion – The capital city of Boreas was designed and built to stand up well to harsh northern winters. Its buildings are highly insulated, and steeply sloping roofs are common, in order to deal with heavy snows. Covered sidewalks criss-cross the city, protecting pedestrians from the elements, and the architecture takes inspiration from a number of northern or alpine cultures back on Earth, including Russia, the Alps, and Scandinavia. Kion is famed for its annual Winter Light Festival, when light and ice combine to create beautiful, if temporary works of art. Kion is home to both the king's Snow Palace and the Council of Nobles, which meet in the Rathaus Rotunda. Many aristocrats have second homes in the city, and those who hold lands to the far west frequently live in the city year-round, only making very occasional visits to inspect their holdings.
Iren – A much more cosmopolitan city than Kion, Iren does not, however, hold quite the same unique cultural atmosphere. There is a great deal of history behind it, as the oldest city on the continent, however. Originally a land of exile and a prison colony, Iren is part of an aristocratic holding, but within the city limits it is allowed to be run democratically by an elected city council. They are not the only such council in the nation, but they are the only one allowed to run the city independently, rather than serving mainly as an advisory council for the ruling nobility.
Baluth – A cold, remote city, Baluth is one of the northernmost outposts in Boreas, on the edge of the ice cap. Hunting and fishing are the main industry, and there is a great deal of influence from Earth cultures such as Inuit and Saami.
Thalla – A very pleasant coastal city, Thalla enjoys lovely weather throughout much of the year and is a frequent destination for vacationing nobles from Kion, especially in winter. It's somewhat gentrified, and most of the working class live in the surrounding area, working the farmland, but there are those of the city's working class who are primarily in the fishing and manufacturing industries.
Brex – A transit town, Brex provides a ferry service into Isunia for those wishing to avoid the mountains by sailing west to Ivir or Donn.
Major rivers: The Ilissos River runs east through Kion, and is joined by the Ingle River from the north. The Kline River flows south toward Brex, on the Atlas Ocean.
Thallan Plains: This is the biggest expanse of arable land in Boreas, and is thus a major agriculture center. The nobles who hold lands in this region are among the richest in Boreas and hold a great deal of economic and political power as a result.
Oreith Mountains: The taller of Boreas' two major mountain ranges, the Oreith range forms a natural barrier that only the more dedicated explorers were willing to cross for many years of the nation's history. It still attracts mountain climbers and other explorers willing to brave the extreme weather, but there is a hyperloop tunnel through the mountains for the less adventurous who still have a need to cross into Isunia.
