<GMAmy> == Intro Start ==
<GMAmy> The rain pours down pretty heavily as Captain Ryllan Barak hurries inside Helicon Base. It's not a very imposing building from the outside, and the entrance isn't much more exciting. A low ranking grunt looks up as he enters, then stands and salutes. "Captain uh...Barak!" He reads the name off Ryllan's uniform. "We've been expecting you."
* Ryllan runs a hand through his close-cropped blue hair to shake some of the drenching out, then returns the salute, "Glad to hear it, Private. Any arrival notes down, or can you point me in the direction of my billet?"
<GMAmy> "Uh...says here you're supposed to report to Colonel Eberhart first. You can find him on level B1."
* Ryllan nods, "Alright. Thank you, Private." he glances around, finding a likely-looking elevator alcove, and walks briskly for it.
<GMAmy> The elevator isn't in use, but when he arrives at level B1, he finds a small flurry of activity. Technicians, uniformed officers, and others in standard gray military fatigues are moving through the halls, some stopping to talk with each other, others poring over clipboards and file folders. As Ryllan makes his way down the hallway, he hears a shout. "BOSS! Hey boss!" The voice sounds familiar. Turning to look, he sees a red-headed young man darting out of a side office and waving to him.
* Ryllan blinks, calling back, "Franz?!" then moves over to the office, ducking deftly around a technician moving past with a large box of important-looking mechanisms, "You're about the last person I was expecting to see here, Sergeant. Explosions finally get too exciting for you?"
<GMAmy> The young man laughs, skidding to a stop near Ryllan, trying to keep out of the way of the hallway traffic. "Hell to the no, man! Just got a sweet new gig doing what I do best." He is followed shortly by a somewhat taller, skinnier young man with light brown hair, and another, somewhat chubby and blond. The two of them throw salutes at Ryllan. "Sir!"
<GMAmy> Corporal Heath Elwood grins. "They told us you'd be arriving today, sir! So good to see you." Corporal Burris Taylor nods. "Glad you finally made it here, sir."
* Ryllan returns the salutes, with a bemused look on his face, "Corporal Taylor, Corporal Elwood. How is it that you three get orders to go here after I get mine, and still get here before me?"
<GMAmy> Franz chuckles. "Typical military efficiency, boss. it was kind of a last minute decision. Looks like they're forming a new division. You're going to be part of this new Makhai thing, right? You're in charge of leading the way in the fight against the Erebos Spawn. But your average military grunts out in the field are still encountering them all the time, so that's where we come in."
<GMAmy> Heath nods enthusiastically. "Yeah, we're the Erebos Spawn Surveillance and Response Team. We'll be in charge of tracking them, and getting information to military squads in the area on nearby Spawn, and helping them devise a strategy to deal with them, based on what you're learning in the field."
* Ryllan nods, "That's a heck of a job description, but if anyone's got the expertise to fill it, it's you three. It's good to see you again." He glances over his shoulder, at a clock, "We'll have to catch up more, soon, but right now I need to have a chat with the Colonel."
<GMAmy> Burris eeps, and Heath nods. "Ack, don't want to keep you. We have work to do anyway. See you later!" Franz gives a cheeky sort-of salute, and the three head back to work. Ryllan corners a young woman in fatigues, who points him towards a conference room down the hallway when he asks about the Colonel's whereabouts.
* Ryllan thanks the young woman politely, then walks briskly down to the conference room, glancing inside just long enough to make sure he isn't interrupting an ongoing meeting before knocking lightly on the door.
<GMAmy> There does appear to be some sort of meeting, or at least the Colonel is speaking with another man. But as soon as he sees Ryllan peering in, he motions for him to come in.
<GMAmy> Colonel Eberhart is a serious looking man, lean and muscled with dark skin and a formal brown uniform. When Ryllan opens the door, he closes the file he was looking at and puts it down on the table. "Ah, Captain Barak. Glad you finally made it. Your trip was uneventful, I hope?"
* Ryllan enters, with a slight grin on his face, and salutes, "Wet, mostly, sir, but otherwise positively idyllic."
<Etir> - The second man looks away from the file and at Ryllan. His uniform indicates that he's a warrant officer, one shorter, thinner, and paler than the Colonel, and a bit more rumpled. He stands to something resembling attention as the commissioned officers exchange pleasantries.
<GMAmy> The colonel smiles wanly. "You get used to it. It's mostly just the season; autumn up here is quite damp. But in the spring and summer it's downright pleasant." He gestures to a chair. "Have a seat. Oh, and this is Chief Warrant Officer Johnathan Hylan. Hylan, this is Captain Ryllan Barak, just transferred here. I believe I showed you his profile."
<Etir> * Johnathan nods, his expression that of someone examining something. His tone, however, is friendly. "Sir. Nice to meet someone slated to work with the tin cans."
<Ryllan> "Well, that's assuming any of this training works out properly. But that's the fun of experimental programs, isn't it? Good to meet you, Hylan." Ryllan takes his seat with a chuckle.
<GMAmy> Colonel Eberhart takes a seat as well. "I understand you've been through level 1 security briefing already, Barak? As well as a rundown of what the training program entails. Hylan here is the simulation coordinator for MAP and will be working on the upper-end planning, as well as wrangling our AI."
<Etir> - He smiles. "I'd say we have pretty good odds of it all working out. Everything except the AI wrangling. It helps that everyone's already a little crazy for agreeing to do this."
<GMAmy> [Eberhart] Tanan IS the most advanced AI in Messembria, and possibly the whole planet. He's just...well. That level of AI comes with a personality, and with that can come some...interesting quirks. You should be in perfectly capable hands though. We've done our best to cover every eventuality.
<GMAmy> [Eberhart] A couple of your team members are already here - we'll introduce you to them later. *He slides the file folder over to Ryllan* There you'll find all their profiles. As soon as everyone is assembled, we want to begin the simulation as soon as possible, so you won't have much chance to get to know each other beforehand. That's probably for the best, at least Tanan says it is. But you should look through the docs and see who you're dealing with.
* Ryllan slides the folder the rest of the way over, "I will, sir. Thank you." He pauses, "I'd be asking if there was anything I or my team should know about the simulation, Hylan, but I guess it wouldn't do us much good, from the briefing."
<Etir> - Hylan looks between the colonel and captain. "Just try your best in there, sir. If the AI's right- and the thing's got a bunch of science saying it probably is- things should be managable. You'll be in deadly peril, of course. Or rather, you won't, but you'll think you are. If you don't survive in there, you'll probably wake up to some bad headaches and we might have to find a new guinea-..
<Etir> ahem. Test pilot."
<Etir> - He smiles again, briefly. "Good advice in general, really, sir. Don't die."
<GMAmy> [Eberhart] And that's probably the best you're going to get out of him. Tanan has gone over the calculations and theories behind this, but what it all comes down to is that we really don't know how it will all play out, since everything will change in response to your team's reactions in the sim. But we do have a highly qualified medical team that will be constantly monitoring your status. We expect the simulation to take a few weeks. Afterward, you'll be debriefed and checked by our physician and psychologist, and once everyone is cleared, if all goes well, you'll begin training with the Makhai.
* Ryllan inclines his head, "Fair enough, sir. Looking forward to seeing what we can do with them -- Not every day you get a chance to act on the scale of the Spawn."
<GMAmy> [Eberhart] Well, we're hoping this will be the project that allows us to turn the tide on those things. *He stands* At any rate, dismissed. I'll have someone show you to your quarters and help you get settled in, and then perhaps introduce you to the members of your team who are here so far. Only two, I think, but more are on their way within the next few days.
* Ryllan stands, taking the folders with him, and salutes again, "Thank you, sir. Good to be working with you again."
<GMAmy> [Eberhart] Same here, Captain. *He nods to Ryllan and Johnathan, then exits the conference room.*
