Nicolaitan Christmas - Why our family no longer celebrates the Nicolaitan doctrine of Christ-mass (and still loves the Savior)

Who is this OTHER JESUS? The counterfeit Jesus. The one nearly the whole world bows down to worship on December 25th. TAMMUZ. Tammuz was born on December 25 to Semiramis, Queen of Babylon and Nimrod, King of Babylon (also the man who instigated the building of the Tower of Babel) who was killed before his son Tammuz was born. Semiramis's Father was Cush whose father was Ham, whose father was Noah. So that makes Tammuz the great, great grandson of Noah who is worshiped on December 25th by nearly all the world.

Ellen White said every wind of doctrine was coming in. Xmas in American was outlawed. Does anyone know that! It was banned, illegal for a long period of time. The Puritans that came here from England knew where Xmas came from. It wasn't until Pres. Ulysses S. Grant made it a federal holiday on 1870. From 1620 to 1870 Americans were beating back Xmas. Because of its roots. She was trying to put a positive spin on things. Instead of spending money on gifts and SELF, lets use the effort for GOD. She did not and could not control the denomination. She was a strong influence. You need to understand TIME and PLACE and what was happening at the different times. The denomination became laodicean in 1845 and by 1888 was wanting to INCORPORATE which it did in 1904 and became CHURCH AND STATE combined "another image to the beast" of Revelation 13:11-18

. Time and Place is important. Those that are using EGW statements on the tree are probably struggling with this news. Its okay. It takes time to let loose. See Jer 10. There can be no languishing of soul now. Get ready! Get ready! Get ready!

The True Meaning Of Christ-Mass

They tell us that it is the season to be jolly. It is a time of ornaments, red and green decorations, silver bells, holly, mistletoe and colored lights. It is also a time of department store Santas calling out their universal mantra, "Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas." Nearly all of the realm of so-called "Christianity" join in and repeat this same greeting, "Merry Christmas!"

Although we hear these words constantly as they resonate millions of times throughout the land, almost nobody understands what they are really saying. It is the purpose of this tract to take the words, "Merry Christmas" and examine the true meaning and essence of those words.

A true Christian would want to examine everything they say, because Jesus said in Matthew 12:36-37, "But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgement. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned." We will now set aside all of the customs, glitter and traditions of Christmas, which were taken from pagan witchcraft and popularized by the Roman Catholic Church, and we will focus on the true meaning of the words, "Merry Christmas!"

Ellen White says, "Those who become confused in their understanding of the word, who fail to see the meaning of antichrist, will surely place themselves on the side of antichrist." Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary, vol. 7, 949. Now that is quite a prophecy. If you do not know who antichrist is, you are going to become antichrist.

In Deuteronomy 12, God is warning His people about false gods.

…take heed to yourself that you are not ensnared to follow them, after they are destroyed from before you, and that you do not inquire after their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods? I also will do likewise.’ You shall not worship the LORD your God in that way; for every abomination to the LORD which He hates they have done to their gods for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods”

Deuteronomy 12:30-31

God cast the Canaanites out of the Promised Land because of their pagan idolatrous practices. They worshiped Ba’al, or Nimrod, Tammuz, the sun god, the pagan Messiah, the god of wine and revelry. They worshiped the evergreen tree, and used it as a symbol of their god. They observed December 25, in worship of the waning sun, and their sun-god divinity. This whole religious system stemmed from ancient Babylon, the root of all heresy and apostasy.

Their heathen rituals were particularly displayed during Rome’s mid-winter festival, Saturnalia that we mentioned in Part II. This festival included gift-giving, drunkenness, gluttony and sexual licentiousness.

God says of these things:

“Do not defile yourselves in any of these ways, because this is how the nations that I am going to drive out before you became defiled. Even the land was defiled, so I punished it for its sin, and the land vomited out its inhabitants….Anyone who does any of these detestable things — such persons must be cut off from their people. Keep my requirements and do not follow any of the detestable customs that were practiced before you came and do not defile yourselves with them. I am the Lord your God” Lev. 18:24-30

It seems to be pretty clear from the Scriptures that no matter what our intentions (as in “God knows my heart”), God said through His Son, the Word of God (Rev 19:13) that He does not want to be worshiped in the same manner as pagans have worshiped their gods. He forbids it and the Israelite’s were punished for these acts.

I am not sure there is much else that can be said if these verses are not clear except I wish to reiterate that God does not change – “For I am the Lord, I change not.” Malachi 3:6. So, certainly how He felt back then about this false worship is how He still feels today.

When we celebrate Christmas as a holiday (holy day) for Messiah, what are we doing?

Let’s take a look at some of the common items used when we celebrate “Christmas” as a holiday dedicated to the worship of Messiah. Again, this is just scratching the surface of the information that can be found when one truly desires to seek the truth.

Santa Claus

This jolly man can be traced back to another ancient pagan Norse legend says the Worldbook Encyclopedia, “Some of Santa Claus’s characteristics date back many centuries. For example, the belief that Santa enters the house through the chimney developed from an old Norse legend. The Norse believed that the goddess Hertha appeared in the fireplace and brought good luck to the home.”

Although most people assume that the original “Santa Claus” was a bishop by the name of St. Nicholas of Asia Minor of the fourth century, this is not really true. Although some of this bishop’s deeds later came to be associated with “St. Nick,” the original “Nicholas” was once again Nimrod, the “mighty one against the Lord.” The word “Nicholas” means “mighty one, powerful.” Traditions of a “god” who gave gifts under an evergreen tree antecede the Asian Minor bishop by thousands of years! Among the Scandinavians it was the god Odin or Woden who left special gifts during the Yuletide season under the evergreen tree, his sacred tree!

Let’s also take a look at the name Santa – S-a-n-t-a, it looks very similar to the name Satan, S-a-t-a-n. Could Santa be the creation of the evil one to deceive the world and cause children (and adults alike) to love an omniscient, omnipresent, eternal, benevolent being which the belief of Santa claims. Instead of the true Omniscient, Omnipresent, Eternal, Benevolent King who is Yahusha, the Messiah! Definitely something to think about.

Let’s also touch on another one of Santa’s names, Kris Kringle which is ironically derived from the word Christkind, who is an Austrian and German gift-giver, and means “Christ Child.” I find this to be blasphemous to our Messiah and Savior.

The Christmas Tree

Evergreen trees have been used in pagan worship since the beginning of time and is one of the most pervasive customs of Christmas today.

Where did this custom come from? Coffin in The Book of Christmas Folklore tells us:

“Most people have heard that the Christmas tree originates in the tannenbaum and is some sort of vestige of Teutonic vegetation worship. This is partially true. However, the custom of using pine and other evergreens ceremonially was well established at the Roman Saturnalia, even earlier in Egypt” (p. 209).

Alexander Hislop in his book The Two Babylons writes:

“The Christmas tree, now so common among us, was equally common in Pagan Rome and Pagan Egypt. In Egypt that tree was the palm tree; in Rome it was the fir; the palm tree denoting the Pagan Messiah, as Baal-Tamar, the fir referring to him as Baal-Berith. The mother of Adonis, the Sun-God and great mediatorial divinity, was mystically said to have been changed into a tree, and when in that state to have brought forth her divine son. If the mother was a tree, the son must have been recognized as the ‘Man the branch.’ And this entirely accounts for the putting of the Yule Log into the fire on Christmas Eve, and the appearance of the Christmas tree the next morning” (page 97).

Yule Log

“In Northern Europe, Winter festivities were once considered to be a Feast of the Dead, complete with ceremonies full of spirits, devils, and the haunting presence of the Norse god, Odin, and his night riders. One particularly durable Solstice festival was “Jol” (also known as “Jule” and pronounced “Yule”), a feast celebrated throughout Northern Europe and particularly in Scandinavia to honor Jolnir, another name for Odin. Since Odin was the god of intoxicating drink and ecstasy, as well as the god of death, Yule customs varied greatly from region to region. Odin’s sacrificial beer became the specially blessed Christmas ale mentioned in medieval lore, and fresh food and drink were left on tables after Christmas feasts to feed the roaming Yuletide ghosts. Even the bonfires of former ancient times survived in the tradition of the Yule Log, perhaps the most universal of all Christmas symbols. The origins of the Yule Log can be traced back to the Midwinter festivals in which the Norsemen indulged…nights filled with feasting, “drinking Yule” and watching the fire leap around the log burning in the home hearth. The ceremonies and beliefs associated with the Yule Log’s sacred origins are closely linked to representations of health, fruitfulness and productivity. In England, the Yule was cut and dragged home by oxen or horses as the people walked alongside and sang merry songs. It was often decorated with evergreens and sometimes sprinkled with grain or cider before it was finally set alight.” source

Mistletoe

“From the earliest times mistletoe has been one of the most magical, mysterious, and sacred plants of European folklore. It was considered to bestow life and fertility; a protection against poison; and an aphrodisiac. The mistletoe of the sacred oak was especially sacred to the ancient Celtic Druids. On the sixth night of the moon white-robed Druid priests would cut the oak mistletoe with a golden sickle. Two white bulls would be sacrificed amid prayers that the recipients of the mistletoe would prosper. Later, the ritual of cutting the mistletoe from the oak came to symbolize the emasculation of the old King by his successor. Mistletoe was long regarded as both a sexual symbol and the “soul” of the oak. It was gathered at both mid-summer and winter solstices, and the custom of using mistletoe to decorate houses at Christmas is a survival of the Druid and other pre-Christian traditions.” source

Giving Gifts

As Christians, we oftentimes believe that the tradition of gift giving on Christmas is in remembrance of God’s gift to us, or the gifts the Wise Men gave to Christ. In actuality, the tradition dates back to the Roman festival Saturnalia, where revelry and debauchery took place to honor their sun god.

It seems clear by these things we read above, that human tradition rooted in pagan religion has become entangled with scriptural truth.

Again let’s turn to the Scriptures to find what God the Father (1 Cor 8:6), the one true God thinks about human tradition?

“See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.” Colossians 2:8

“Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, ‘This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouths, and honoreth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men” Matt. 15:7-9.

And again in Mark:

“Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition…” Mark 7:7-8

In Acts 15:20, the Apostles were writing to the Gentiles who had become Christians to abstain from things polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from things strangled, and from blood.

And in 2 Corinthians we read:

“And what concord hath Christ with Belial? Or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” 2 Cor 6:15-17

Friends, we are the temple of God (Our bodies are a Temple for the Holy Spirit of Christ to dwell in) and we are told to abstain from idol worship, not “redeem or rename” this pagan “Holy day” as I hear a lot of Christians saying we can/should do with Christmas. We absolutely can NOT keep Christ in Christmas if He was never there to begin with. It should be clear that we can NOT redeem a holiday rooted in false pagan worship that was simply deemed the birth day of our Messiah by man in order to worship our Savior on this day!

Even back in 1647, the puritans while aiming to honor God and His Son (1 Cor 8:6) with the pure gospel (Third Angel's Message) and not traditions of men banned the observance and celebration of Christmas. It was in fact illegal in Massachusets, as they made their way into America until it was re-instituted in 1820.

In my research, I also found an excellent brochure called XMAS, by A.W. Pink who was an English Christian evangelist and theologian known for his reformed teachings at a time when opposing theological traditions dominated those aiming to reform the church. See brochure here – XMAS

Now that we have seen the truly pagan roots of Christmas, down to the objects we use to celebrate this day with, I’d like to present another, possibly deeper thought –

Matthew 10:22 says “And you shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.”

Messiah tells us here that we will be hated, we should actually expect it from those who do not know Him. His very name invokes fear and hatred from the unrighteous.

From this scripture truth, we can gather that the world should hate Christmas, if it is of course truly about the Messiah. But we know this is not so as practically the entire world not only observes this holiday but embraces it.

I will refrain from posting the pictures here, but we all are very aware that companies and organizations that do not hold to Christian values but instead embrace the world advertise and promote “Christmas”. Companies like Starbucks and Target who not only make sure anything considered Christian is not associated with their company, but actually promote many ideas that are completely contrary to the word of God.

Ok, at this point some will say that the world has distorted Christmas just like it does everything else. I hear many times things like “We must take it back!”, “We must redeem what the enemy stole and turn it for good!” Frankly, with the truth I have found in the history of these false pagan religions and in the Holy Word of God, I say we CAN NOT do that.

In fact, what I believe is that….

The world openly celebrates Christmas because it was never of Messiah to begin with. Christmas was of the world from the start. If the word Christmas, or the actual holiday was actually of Messiah, then the world would hate it.

These thoughts from A.W. Pink’s brochure linked above makes exactly this point:

“And WHO is it that celebrates “Christmas?” The whole “civilized world.” Millions who make no profession of faith in the blood of the Lamb, who “despise and reject Him,” and millions more who while claiming to be His followers yet in works deny Him, join in merrymaking under the pretense of honoring the birth of the Lord Jesus. Putting it on it’s lowest ground, we would ask, is it fitting that His friends should unite with His enemies in a worldly round of fleshly gratification? Does any true born again soul really think that He whom the world cast out is either pleased or glorified by such participation in the world’s joys? Verily, the customs of the people are VAIN; and it is written, “Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil” (Ex. 23:2)”

As followers of Messiah, we have been called to be set-apart from the world in numerous scriptures. We are considered righteous and a holy priesthood because we are the children of our High Priest, the Messiah. If the world adores and celebrates Christmas and all of the materialism and greed that comes along with it, why would we as Set-apart ones want to follow them?

This brings me to my last point of this series of posts;

What is Christmas really about anyway, is it to worship Messiah or is it to satisfy the flesh?

So, it’s time to answer that question I asked myself in Part I. When I first realized the truth about Christmas and I grieved the thought of not celebrating, I had to ask myself WHY? Why would I miss it so much? Was it truly because I couldn’t worship the Savior if we didn’t celebrate it? What is because I though Messiah would disapprove if we chose we would no longer celebrate what the WORLD says is the day He was born? The tough but true answer is NO!

I would not miss celebrating Christmas for any of these reasons. I grieved because of the memories, the good times had by family and friends around this time. I grieved because I absolutely LOVE to give gifts to my family and friends and I would miss doing this during the Christmas holiday season. I grieved because I would miss the smells, feel and sounds of Christmas which bring me full circle back to the memories I have as a child and as an adult.

Friends, none of these things have to do with worship of our Savior. And most importantly, NONE of these things that I grieved by not celebrating Christmas are required to be done ONLY at Christmas time. I can remember those good times with family and friends, they will always remain memories to me and I don’t have to rid myself of them simply because we have decided as a family, that Christmas is not of Messiah and we will no longer celebrate it.

Instead, we will choose to give to family and friends throughout the year. For no reason or even for a good reason…we do not need a holiday tradition, rooted in paganism and established by man to give to others. We should be doing these things and giving daily, with love.

“But just as you excel in everything-in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us-see that you also excel in this grace of giving.” 2 Corinthians 8:7

Let me ask you (as I asked myself), what if Christmas didn’t include presents, trees, lights, songs, wonderful food, Santa Claus, candy and family gatherings? Would we still be as dedicated to celebrating it then? Would we fight to keep Christ in Christmas as much as we do now if these things were not a part of the celebration?

Instead of getting so excited and focusing on the coming of Christmas, we should have the same excitement and focus on the appointed feasts of God as He instructs in His word. Our family is excited to learn more about how we can honor and observe these feast which point to our Messiah and are actually in the Scriptures, starting next year.

We should have the same excitment, joy and abandon as we worship our God the Father of Christ our Messiah every single day…every . single . day!

I will mention again the verse that the Holy Spirit of Christ brings to mind over and over

”God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24

Throughout scripture we find God instructing us on how and how He does not want to be worshiped. If we look in the New Testament, we can find verses that shows us what true worship looks like for believers under the New Covenant.

“For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.” Philippians 3:3

As followers of Messiah, our true worship involves our spirit worshiping the one true God the Father, in absolute TRUTH ("Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" John 14:6. Our flesh isn’t part of our worship, since it cannot truly worship God, who is Spirit (WORDS: MY WORDS ARE SPIRIT AND THEY ARE LIFE - John 6:63). Galatians says our flesh is actually at war with the Spirit:

“For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.” Galatians 5:17

In this verse, Paul uses a capital ‘S’ which implies the Spirit of God. As believers, our sin originates in the flesh, and therefore we cannot worship God with “fleshy” things.

So, how does this relate to Christmas?

If our flesh is satisfied in the sights, sounds, and smells of Christmas, is it truly worship of God which is to be done in the spirit?

Our worship should be centered on God at all times. If aspects of “worship” begin to focus on us and what we feel, then it is not true worship. So, the fight to keep Christ in Christmas…what does that really mean? I will ask again, if Christmas did not include all of the festivities we associate with the holiday would we be fighting at all? Is Christianity really fighting to keep true worship in the spirit, the way God commands it in Christmas?

If your answer is yes after all you have read here, I must seriously beg to differ!

My Final thoughts:

Truly, the whole world has been deceived by the evil one and his cunning masquerades, even since the very beginnings in the garden. The celebration of these ancient pagan festivals, calling them “Christian,” is an abomination in the sight of God and He does not accept it as worship!

Yahusha Messiah said to his disciples:

“If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed. And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” John 8:31-32.

Friends, I know it is a hard truth…believe me. There has been much study, prayer and even tears over finding this and allowing God to trim my fleshly heart and make it more as He desires from His followers. If I do not share this truth with those I love and those that I know truly love God, then I am in disobedience as a watchman. Ezekiel 33:6-9

The truth is, Christmas is a pagan and man-made “Holy Day”. The question is, now that you know…what are you going to do about it?

God’s word says

“And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent:” Acts 17:30

May the Holy Spirit of God help you to see clearly and choose for yourself and your family how to worship Him in spirit and in truth!

Hosea 2:13

Who were the Nicolaitans?

In the 2nd and 3rd chapters of Revelation, Jesus commands the apostle John to write letters to the angels of the seven churches planted in Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea. Tradition suggests that the apostle John had oversight of these seven Churches within Asia Minor. Jesus commands John to write to the Church in Ephesus, “But you have this in your favor; you hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.” (Rev. 2: 6)

Jesus also commands John to write to the Church in Pergamum, “Nevertheless there are a few things which I hold against you. You have people in your midst who hold to the

teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin by eating foods sacrificed to idols and committing sexual immorality. Likewise you also have those who hold to the teachings of the Nicolaitans. Therefore repent.” Jesus lumps the teaching and practices of the Nicolaitans with those who entice members of the Body of Christ to “eat foods sacrificed to idols and committing sexual immorality.” It is difficult to imagine how adherence to Church authority compliments the eating of foods sacrificed to idols since it was Church authority which commanded Gentiles to abstain from eating foods sacrificed to idols and from committing sexual immorality.

"God gave our first parents the food He designed that the race should eat. It was contrary to His plan to have the life of any creature taken. There was to be no death in Eden...." CDF 81 (Ellen White).
