5/27/15 from Kymberly A in my online algebra class:
Hi Julie,
I want to thank you for recommending me for the tutor program with Mira Costa. I feel honored to have received such a compliment and recommendation. Although tutoring won't fit into my schedule as a full time employee and mother, I am definitely appreciative of your faith in my math abilities.
I want to thank you for your help with my understanding of Algebra. Before your math class, algebra was a foreign language to me. I felt that I was at a disadvantage because I never took Algebra I in high school. I did Geometry and then went straight into Algebra II. I never got a solid foundation in Algebra. Your class and the way you explain why you do certain things and/or steps made everything so clear to me and resulted in me excelling in your class. I couldn't wait to take a second math class with you and was so happy that I was able to take both of your online classes back to back. Thank you for teaching me Algebra in such a way that I can understand it, and Online no less!
Thank you again for teaching me a subject I had almost lost hope in, and for believing in my abilities enough to recommend me as a tutor. I appreciate what you have done for me.
With great appreciation,
Kymberly A
5/18/15 from Angela in my online algebra class:
Hi professor Harland,
I wanted to say thank you so much for a wonderful semester. This is my second class that I have took with you and I always feel like I learn so much from your class. I feel like my open math has also really improved their site which is nice because it makes it more user friendly.
5/9/15 from Kendra in my online algebra class:
I really enjoyed your class this semester and I promise I'm not trying to suck up! Lol I've had some pretty crummy math teachers in the past and this class really helped make sense of what we were doing! Thank you for all the effort and passion you put into teaching- it really shows!
5/20/15 from Desiree in my online algebra class
As Ive mentioned in past messages to you, math is my Achille's heel, but you really did manage to get the information across to me more effectively than any teacher has before. At the risk of sounding like I'm sucking up, I just wanted to extend my gratitude for all the work and thoughtfulness you put into to teaching. As much as I detest math, I appreciated your class. Probably best I give you this praise now, as I'm not sure how cheery I'll feel once I see my grade. Honestly, I can say, you certainly gave me every bit of information and support you possibly could.

5/24/14 from Teena W in my Trig class:
Dear Professor Harland,
I just want to thank you for all the heart and dedication you bring to your classroom. For me to not only pass Trigonometry, but complete with a B grade, was a personal triumph over a lifetime of severe math trauma and a very inadequate math foundation. I could not have done it without your excellent instruction, your caring, and your videos. As a 46-year old woman, it is amazing to experience how much that shifted my self-concept. You were the perfect person to help me with that. Educators such as yourself are our society's best asset, in my opinion.
Many thanks and best wishes to you!

10/2/13 from Ben O in online class
Good morning,
I wanted to drop a quick line and thank you for being so communicative. I find it really helpful, especially being in an online class.
Also, wanted to thank you again for leading this class. I've always really enjoyed math, particularly algebra. But I've never gotten so much out of math and have felt as excited and confident as I do in it than I have in this class. Your lecture videos paired with the text really help the concepts click for me.

You've been an awesome teacher, and I actually did better than I ever have in math! Thank you so much for making it ask easy to understand! (I wish you were teaching Stats for next semester!)

Thanks for all the help! Math is the subject I struggle in the most and without all the great videos and study guides I could not have done that well!
Sincerely,

12/16/13 from Tammy
Thank you so much for a wonderful class. Honestly, math has never been my favorite subject and in this class I learnt a lot and actually really enjoyed it. I appreciate your support and hope I can take another one of your classes in the near future!
Spring 2013
2/22/13 email from my Math 30 Elementary algebra student, Jean Kollenburn
Your class is excellent and your videos are so well done, you are relatable and personable and you have a wonderful way of explaining math concepts that take the fear out learning algebra.
I really liked my teacher last semester but the structure was less conducive to learning. I was frustrated and not as successful. Your videos are superior to the Gay-Martin (is that her name? ) in my opinion.
Thank you for your encouragement and dedication to student success. You go above and beyond with your emails and reminders. I'm so scattered with pregnancy brain, a husband who just got back from deployment for the 5th time, 3.5 girls (21, 8, 4 & 20 weeks preg.) & one grandson. I graduated in 91 and haven't touched math since. Last semester was my first. Math was the last thing I needed to transfer. I need intermediate & statistics and or bus math. Totally intimidating!!
Anyway... Im doing better than I could have hoped. I feel good about myself as math is a huge hurdle. Btw.. Do you teach the next class?!
Regards,
Jean Kollenburn

Hi Professor Harland,
This is Christina, I'm in your Math 64 Online course. I just wanted to say thank you for being so understanding and accommodating with my illness, I really appreciated it. I finished up most of my chemo during this past semester and am now currently in the hospital for about 3 weeks getting a stem cell transplant. Your class really helped keep my mind busy and focused even though at times it was a bit tiring. It also helped me stay convinced I can do anything regardless of current circumstances and still achieve my goals. So I just wanted to thank you so much for making your online class so user friendly and extremely well organized, I really felt I learned a lot and this was by far my favorite online class. I have highly recommended your class to my friends and family.
Sincerely, Christina

Just wanted to say thank you for doing all the work you did on your math videos. I wish I knew about them earlier. I went to a stress taking for math test workshop about 6 weeks ago and they really encouraged using you. I spent a ton of time in the math lab and had used your information as a book mark. I assumed 'yourmathgal' was some tutor and to be honest I hadn't had much luck with tutor. Your videos are CLEAR and understanding and wanted you to know your hard work is appreciated.
I'm 52 and going back to school to get my degree to teach elementary school. I prefer kindergarten. I have an AA and it's been so long that I have the AA that math wasn't even required because I took a Psychology class instead so . . .
Thank you and I will continue to use you ~ I'm in Math 830. Oh just so you know how helpful you are my math test scores were C,D, & F well my last one one chapters 6 & 7 after reviewing LOTS of material in the book, reading the chapters and your videos ~ I received a B I do believe that is my highest math score EVER in 52 years.
Have an incredible day and giggle lots. Nancy

Hello Ms. Harland,
I just finished taking the final exam and I wanted to send you a quick note to say "Thank You!" Although this was one of the most difficult classes in my college career, I learned a great deal and I feel prepared for Math 101. Thank you for making the videos they were very helpful. Also, thanks for sending personal notes of encouragement throughout the semester. I know you have several classes with lots of students so it was very thoughtful for you to send personal notes. The notes encouraged me to keep plugging along. I have come to realize what you whisper in your videos, "Math is cool and I can do it!"
Have a wonderful holiday season and a productive sabbatical next semester. Eric P.
12/15/11
Hi Julie,
I jut wanted to thank you for all your help this semester. I appreciate so much you taking the time to talk to me on the phone and work through problems. I signed up for math 101 with your husband and plan to study before hand so the material is a bit more fresh. Thank you again, you're a great teacher.
Meagan L.

Professor Harland,
I just wanted to tell you what a pleasure and honor its been to have you as my math teacher these past two semesters. You truly are the best math teacher I've ever had yet we've never met! Your teaching methods are amazing and you have inspired me to learn and love math. For the first time I've enjoyed taking math classes and have grown to be successful with it. Thank you for being such a huge impact and inspiration on my college journey. You also showed me that online courses are just as effective if not more than in-class courses. I can't thank you enough. Take care and Happy Holidays!
Sincerely,
Erika G.

6/21/11 (after 2 days of summer class)
Hi Professor Harland,
I've watched all 24 videos and enjoyed them! They really help me understanding math and it's been over 10 years since high school so I need a lot of reminder :) Thanks again for helping me with my math, I never thought I would like it but I do! Thank you for cheering us up! Math is cool and I can do it!!!
Yours, Nita M.
6/15/11
Hi Prof. Harland,
OK, I got it. THANK YOU very much, and just so you know, THE VIDEOS ARE ALREADY HELPING!!!! I didn't (initially) understand the value in watching the videos and writing everything down, but now I sure as heck do! Guess that is why you are the professor. I get so giddy when I understand a math problem!! Thanks, again.

Dear Julie:
First of all, I want to thank you for being such a terrific teacher and so very kind to me during a very rough time in my life. Even though I didn't pass the class--I guess is was a doomed endeavor but I just didn't want to accept that--I learned a lot and am VERY interested in learning the rest of it and coming to understand it all. In the past couple of years as I've reentered school (may as well let you know that I'm 57 and never graduated college!) I have derived great satisfaction from studying and being able to do well in subjects that I couldn't bear in younger years. It's been fun. I've loved being in your class, and look forward to the next one, whatever it is!
Have a wonderful summer. Karen B
12/15/11 Follow-up from Karen B
Hi Julie:
I was so scared to look at my final score and was absolutely thrilled to see that I did manage to pass--if by only a hair! You have no idea how relieved I am. Believe it or not, I spent 4.5 hours taking the final exam--perhaps a new record? It's been a heckuva ride this past semester. On top of everything else I began to have health issues a few months ago which were getting worse and culminated in me being hospitalized overnight 2 weeks ago. So I was incredibly stressed and preoccupied with a ridiculous number of things which were taking a lot of my time and attention. I really want to thank you for all your support and patience and excellent teaching. I will definitely need to review before moving on to 101 but I am taking it next semester and plan on having a stress-free, healthy semester so that I can pay full attention to my studies. I think you're an absolutely amazing teacher. Thank you for everything and have a wonderful holiday.
Best--Karen
Professor Harland,You are absolutely an amazing teacher and I am grateful that I had someone like you to keep me motivated. I enjoyed your online math class and found it to be very challenging but I survived. I couldn't have asked for a better way to learn math. I thank you for your support and motivation.
V/r,Sonia G
Thank you for a great class! You really are a wonderful teacher!!! The math videos you have made are awesome. I was finally able to understand the math and if I had some trouble spots, which I rarely did, I could always go back and watch the video again.
Thank you again, Vanessa L
You did a very good job on those videos, they do help out a lot.. You are the first online math professor that does this and I knew I chose you for a reason this semester :) Christie R.
Good Morning Professor Harland-
I must say I am shocked at the way I am learning Algebra in your class. Last semester our teacher showed us one of your videos on U tube and that is why I signed up for your class this semester. After I do the section work, I easily do the homework. I am also able to explain how I do the work. Which is very exciting for me!!!! So thank you!!!
Thank you very much,
Kelly B
Fall 2010
Professor Harland,
I just wanted to thank you so much for reinstating me into your Math 130 Trig class. I cannot tell you how much I really do appreciate it! I learned so much by taking your course and your math videos helped immensely! I will definitely be using them to help me in my future math courses! I thoroughly enjoyed your class and thank you for your time. Dana K.
Fall 2010
"I hadn't watched all your videos for the previous sections and it showed in my poor grade on the Midterm. I am doing every video now and it is such a HUGE difference in completing the homework. Now instead of spending so much time in the homework trying to learn the concepts (like I did before the first midterm), now I'm spending all my time on the videos and the homework is a breeze. I really do appreciate all your time in putting out the videos and I promise I will do much better on the second midterm. ... I'm embarrassed for not watching the videos early on." BTW, this student aced the next midterm and final, and did great in the class.
Thanks to you I made friends with Algebra - then was able to ace a statistics class - now in MCC's RN program with 0 problems with nursing calculations. Thanks! :) Safiah D.
Dear Professor Harland,
It was real pleasure to be in your class. You make me believe that math is easy and fun.
Than you for your professionalism.
Sincerely
Mari E
Hi Professor,
I enjoyed taking your class this semester and 830 during summer. Even
though they were both a lot of work, you do make math fun and simple to
grasp. Mike M.
You are the best math teacher I have ever had. You are amazing...Jillian M.
Thanks for making math fun. Your videos are Incredibly helpful!!!
Thanks for all the hard work! You are an excellent teacher :)
I hope to have you as my professor in future classes. You are a superb teacher!
Thank you, Krista T
Dear Julie,
THANK YOU! You really did amazing with me. I hadn't touched 'math' in over 35 years and you made it understandable.
Cheryl K (BTW, this student earned an A+)
Hello Ms Harland, just wanted to say thank you so much for all your help throughout this semester. I truly appreciate all the hard work you put into making sure we understood the topics and passed our tests. I have really learned a few lessons in hard work and dedication. This class was a wonderful learning experience and although I struggled, it felt amazing being able to overcome these troubles I had and finish my final exam. I feel like I did a great job on it and I hope it makes you proud as a teacher. Well, once again thank you for your time and effort and have a great holiday and new years. Jose A.
Professor Harland, I will be honest and say that I took on to many classes this semester and your class was the one that suffered and for that I'm sorry to you and my transcript. I pride myself in being an A student and loved the last class i took with you in the spring. Your videos and style of teaching is amazing and I'm going to try to take you next semester, but with a realistic work load. I'm sorry i had to drop your class, online of course, but am more than excited to take your class again. I just wanted you to know that my head is now in the right place! Have a great Thanksgiving. --Marian T
I just want to say thank you for your wonderful math videos, I will
continue to use them as I brush up on my math skills for the TEAS test.
I wanted to thank you for your continued support as I was fumbling
through your class. Your videos did make math more
fun for me so I thank you for that.
My Respect, Kristina S
Summer 2010
Considering my previous experiences/struggles with math classes in high school, I was sure I would do terribly.
But you are an amazing teacher and I actually understood the material and didn't want to quit half-way through (which is rare for me).
I feel confident continuing to the next level math. Michelle
Professor Harland -
I just wanted to thank you for a great class this summer. Math has never been my thing but I have to say you really made math fun and I loved your class. I plan to take the imtermedite algebra placement test within the next two weeks and was wondering if you had any advice on how to prepare for it? I would like to do well so that I can take math 105 in the fall. Please let me know :) I hope you have a great summer and once again thank you for making math fun! Abby I.
Thanks professor! It was a fun course and your YouTube videos made it easy.
Mike
Dear Professor Harland:
I have to thank you for the class you created which was a wonderful help to me and for teaching my daughter, which was my goal in overcoming my Algebraphobia in my 50s!! I very much appreciate your giving me the opportunity to have the text and continue with the on-line support after the class. I am now moderately proficient :-), and fearless!
Thanks again-
Jennifer M
Professor Harland,
I wanted to thank you for making this class easy to follow, the structure really worked well for me and the schedule that I have. I took my final this morning and am looking forward to having it graded to see what my final grade will be. Now maybe my wife will go into labor so our little one can arrive a little early! Thanks again for making the structure of this class easy to follow.

Hello, Ms. Harland, it sure is fun and they are lots of things to learn, i just want to thank you for your cheers and help me to not give up, i know i got behind with chapter #3 and a part of #4 and that it seem i wasn't going to make it but with your cheers you made me motivate my self that i can do it, and I'm almost to the finish line. it sure was a great summer, and the marathon made me believe in me self and that if i want to get some where i can do it, if you just put effort in what i want, ones again thank you! Hello there,
Thank you for the welcome! I would also like to thank you for your youtube videos they are great! The videos really helped me with the placement testing because I havn't done any math since I was in high school! I am 24 now so you can see how I totally needed some brushing up haha. I love your videos and I look forward to taking your class online. Merry Christmas and happy new year! ;)

Hi Julie,
Just wanted to thank you for your encouragement this semester. I took the final yesterday and felt pretty good about it. This class was a challenge but I'm proud to have finished it.
Happy Holidays, Laura N
Prof. Harland, I am so thankfull to have a professor like you. No other teacher I've had here has been involved with me as an individual student. So thank you! I have called off the next four days from work to just sit down and get through this part of the class. I am working right now on it and I am pretty confident that I'll get it all done. My laptop is back, so I hope you'll see a difference in my work ethic for the next part of this class.
Thank you again, and I am more than positive that I'll get it all done.
talk soon,
Aimee
Professor Harland, Thank you so much for working with me this semester. It truely is rare to have a teacher that cares like you do. I hope you have a Merry Christmas and come see The Tempest in the Spring, I am in it!
thankyou again,
Aimee
Thank you for your support through this online math. Your videos were invaluable to me! Do you teach the 101 this same way?
By the way I did also pass the intermediate algebra asset test to allow me into the science classes I need. This is also thanks to your posting of the full text of book.
You are my math Gal!
Most sincerely,
Sherry W
Hello Professor,
I took my final today and felt really good about it.
I would like to thank you. The resources and youtube videos really helped me.
I hope there is an upper level math class that you will be teaching that I may take in the future.
Much appreciative student,
Gary I.
I'm really enjoying your class, you make it fun and really easy to learn everything. Thank you again!!

Thank you Mrs. Harland it was a pleasure to have you as an instructor, I have to say that I was a bit nervous going into this Internet class, as it was my first, but the experience was nothing but amazing. Thank you. Omar M.
Julie-
thanks for being an awesome teacher and for giving me a great first online class experience! I liked it so much I decided to take math 101 online too! Never would have though I would have enjoyed it as much as I did. Thanks again!

Prof. Harland:
This was my first ever online course and enjoyed it very much. Thank you for your diligence and guidance throughout the course.
Enjoy the rest of your summer.
Reynaldo L
Hello Julie,
I have been lagging a bit and want to thank you for all your help in getting through the class especially your videos. This fall I am continuing with Intermediate Algebra online and you might hear from me for help. I feel fortunate to have taken your class and once again thank you. Enjoy the rest of the Summer.
George W
Thanks for being such an awesome teacher! Taking math online is pretty difficult especial during the summer but your videos really did help a whole bunch. Well, have a great summer! :)
-Czarina P
Just wanted to say thank's for an awesome online class. It turned out that I probably should have started my review at the Math 101 level, as I remembered most of the Beginning Algebra topics. However, I did relearn some material when it came to Rational Expressions, Exponents, and Factoring; so it was a good review for me.
Perhaps we will meet in another of your online classes one day?
Sincerely, Denny
It's been really cool having you as my teacher. You've helped me a great
deal and have shown a lot of patience and I do appreciate it.
Thanks again!
Paul
Julie-
Thankyou so much for the accomodations to take the test. No one has ever done that for me (which is why I probably hated math and struggled through it) Have a great 4th of July
katie
Thank you, I really enjoy teachers that care. Thanks again for everything, you seem like the perfect teacher for a online class, on who goes above and beyond. Hope you have a great summer.
Travis
You are indeed the cool math gal!
Thanks again for your good instruction and guidance.
I'll see you the fall.

Spring 2009
Dear Mrs. Harland,
Thank you for a great class. This is the first online math class I have ever taken and I have found it to be a very effective way to learn math. I never understand math when I hear it in a lecture. Having the book was also a great help...thank you for distributing them to the class.
I also appreciated your encouragement through out the semester. This was the first time I have could ever say that math was fun!
Sincerely,
Suzanne M
Hi Julie:
I want to thank you for your boundless enthusiasm and passion for math! My junior high school algebra teacher was the proverbial undead...which helped contribute to a 30-year phobia I have now overcome :) Also thank you for the excellent instructional materials, and your quick response to any and all questions and issues, for the tips and handouts and the opportunity to continue learning algebra on line after the class is over. Have a WONDERFUL summer... dance your buns off!!
Thanks for a great semester-
Jennifer M
Professor Harland,
Right now I'm going through what might be a divorce. This has been a really difficult time for me and as much as I wanted to finish this class and do well, I just can't. I know I could of easily just dropped and not given you an explanation, but I really want to be honest with you because I really enjoyed this class and I didn't want you to think I just didn't try. As you could remember from the first assignment when we introduced ourselves Math is not my strong subject and I have taken this class MANY times. This wasn't a class where I sat in front of you and took notes to learn the material, but I want you to know that out of all the teachers and all the times I have taken the class I learned more from you online listening to your videos. You are so patient, and your enthusiasm was such a huge motiviation for me to want to learn math....I never thought I would ever say that! I just want to thank you and tell you that your methods of teaching are motivating and you helped me understand things I never thought I would get in math. I never thought I would get that in a online class, but I honestly learned more than I ever have in any other classroom taught class. So, I will be dropping the class with a W and I hope that you are teaching in the summer or fall, so that I can give this class one more try. I never thought that i could pass a math class, but i honestly feel that I can by taking your class once more. I hope to learn from you again next semester. Thank you for everything.
Sincerely,Leticia W
You are a very thoughtful teacher. You show that and that you are here for us. An on line class is not always easy, but it helps knowing you are here to help.

Hello Julie-
I had you online last semester for Math 100. I just wanted to let you know that you were great. My next teacher was not. I just wanted to thank you for being involved and knowledgable. It's a good thing that there are still teachers who teach because they want to share knowledge!
Thank you!
Jessica G
Hello,
I just wanted to say thank you for being so helpful and nice! :) i enjoyed taking this class and i now have a little more confidence in math. I hope you have a wonderful rest of the summer!!!
-Amanda B
Just wanted to drop a note to compliment you on this class. You were not kidding when you mentioned that it was going to be a "fast paced" class! As much as i was stressed out over these last 6 weeks... I actually had fun with math again. You see I am also concurrently taking my class work at University of Phoenix, and things have been a bit.... overwhelming.
Thanks again for a great, yet intense, class! If I could...I'd take more courses from you! Frank D.
12/14/15: Tom S asked his Business students what teacher they highly recommended and got this response from 2 students: "Even though I’m new at MiraCosta -this is my first semester here- I strongly recommend Julie Harland. She is interested on the students’ success and makes sure students understand the subject. She makes the class easy to learn. Ms. Harland has her own math videos, I think that is awesome. I would recommend Julie Harland for online math too. She is interested in the students learning math and her videos are awesome."

Thanks a million,

9/1/16 from current student Chase T: This class is awesome by the way. Definitely my favorite class. Only problem is me geeking out and showing people math they don't understand. People at my work think ill build rockets any day now lol.
12/5/16 from Kelly P. in my online Math 30 class:
I wanted to say that I have never had a better math teacher! Your way of teaching algebra actually makes me understand it! I failed algebra twice in high school and after taking this class I am so proud of myself! This class had made me more confident! Thank you for everything! I hope I get you for math 64! Merry Christmas!
12/7/16 from Nicole in my online Math 30 class:
Thank you for being such a great professor! Your online class was amazing.
Best regards,
Katharina Hessen

I just wanted to let you know it was a pleasure taking your class. I learned a lot and enjoyed how much thought/effort you put into the videos and tools for our class.

Have a wonderful holiday break, I will "see" you next month in Math 64 :-)
12/10/16
I want to thank you for a great semester. This is the class that I was most concerned about at the start of the semester, and because you break everything down so thoroughly this has been my easiest class (go figure).
12/14/16
I really appreciate the way you setup your class. I already signed up for your Math 64 class. Thank you for always being available to answer my questions and for being so thorough. I look forward to taking another semester with you. Julianna A

The column at the right has notes I received from former students. Below are some emails received from my current students during the semester (in reverse chronological order). I started saving emails in 2008--those are at the bottom.
First are notes I receive from former students (after the class had ended).

I saw the article in the newspaper today and had to look you up. I know how much I enjoy hearing from my students and thought you might feel the same. I graduated from Mira Costa in 1990. I had you for a couple of algebra classes. You recommended me for the tutoring program at the school and it really helped me. I also took you Math for Teachers class. It was 3 or 4 hours on Sat. I really learned a great deal from that class and really helped me reach my students after becoming a 4th grade teacher.
In all of your classes I learned the subject matter, but as a
"returning" student or a little bit of age, I also watched HOW you
taught. It made a big impact on me. I have talked to many about your teacher class. I really think it built good math teachers. I haven't had time yet to check out your site, but I intend to. I am now retired. I miss my teaching, but all the restrictions they are putting on teachers is not what I went to school for. I wanted to connect with my students, take them from where they were to were they could go. That was not always the test score they were looking for. I worked in a low income school and they were soooo far behind. I am having fun in retirement, but my heart will always be in teaching. Maybe someday they will have the money to pay me to come back hourly. For now I am
enjoying myself and volunteering a bit at my old school.
Keep up your quest to help people understand Math. Everyone is so afraid of it, and really it is a puzzle to solve. You are helping more then you will ever know.

Hello Ms. Harland,
My name is Ivy Evans-Virto and I took a class with you about 2 years ago. I just wanted to tell you how amazing I think that it is that you continue to send this updates! Thank you; it's amazing how many people can succeed in life if someone cares. And from your actions you are in deed and educator who cares! Thank you again, Ivy E
May 2012 from a former student who first wrote this note on youtube: Professor Harland I miss your classes! You always made math fun and kept it fascinating and fun! Thanks for all you have done and still do! You are terrific!
I asked who he was and he emailed me the following:
Hello Professor Harland,
My name is Jeremy Thompson. I had your algebra 2 class at Mira Costa in I believe spring of 2011. It was an online class and I have to say it was my best / favorite math class I have ever had! You are a fantastic teacher. I was always fearful of math, but with your class I gained an appreciation for and a new found confidence in mathematics. Your videos are so helpful. I am in Calc 2 now and still reference some of your videos for "refreshers". I just wanted to give you praise for all you do for students. You are truly great at what you do and I thank you for for giving me a great foundation and great tools to use in my academic career thus far. I like to watch some of your new videos, like the one today, because I find them interesting and like how you present the information and make it fun to learn. Fun and math usually don't go together, but you make it happen!
Thanks again for all you do,
Jeremy Thompson
June 21, 2012 from former summer 2011 student, Yuanita McCrossin:
Hello Prof. Harland,
My name is Nita and I took your online math 830 last summer. I am taking math 101 online from another teacher but she doesn't give enough material to study so I find myself going back to your videos! You will not believe how much your videos help me! I used to think that you were hard, you made us watch the videos, write everything down to be graded, that was tough. I remembered one time I called my husband crying--saying I'm not going to cook tonight, not doing any housework, not doing our monthly finance report because this teacher is grilling me with homework! But now I am so thankful that you made us do all that, and I want you to know that I am grateful and I can't thank you enough.
My husband is a math geek, he study math on the weekend just for fun. When I told him all about you, he is happy that there are people out there who's just as passionate as him about math. He actually encouraged me to write you this email. So thank you again Prof. Harland! Your videos will help me go through this math 101 :)
With gratitude,
Nita
