John F. Kennedy once said, "A child miseducated is a child lost." Students learn information differently and it’s my responsibility to give them equal opportunities to succeed. I will take every student, regardless of cultural difference or learning modality, as far as I can. Guiding a young student in the right direction will often result in exponential gains for their future. I will assist students in acquiring the necessary skills to become both adjusted and productive members of our society.
I believe that every student has a passionate desire to succeed. Creating high expectations will challenge students to create goals to strive for. By using different teaching strategies, I will encompass the different learning styles of each student. Knowledge is a gift that I as the teacher will be able to offer my students. I am a life long learner that seeks to improve in all areas of my life. I will be open to constructive criticism that will help me grow as an educator. It is important that my students know that their education does not stop at the end of the year, it continues throughout their entire life.
My purpose is to make a difference in the lives of my students. I want my students to know that I cared and made a positive impact on of their lives. It is essential that students are able to voice their opinions and by creating an environment to do so is vital. I want students to embrace uniqueness and see that everyone is special in his or her own way. I believe this will help everyone see different points of view and it will help develop critical thinkers.
As a teacher, we teach who we are. My experiences will help contribute to the intellectual, moral and professional virtues expected of an educator. I have communication skills, which help when working others. I listen well and am willing to take responsibility for learning. I am very competent with the use of technology; I am highly skilled at developing and using new technologies to make learning relevant and more enjoyable. I am also a good problem solver, I find solutions to most any challenge. I am a strong person who can work through any physical challenge. Through broken bones and illnesses I have stayed in school and worked through difficult times. I have built up my self-knowledge through taking the time to understand and know myself.
It is my responsibility as a teacher to make sure that students are learning at their potential. I will help students become more dependent on themselves and to discover and work towards becoming a self-directed learner. I will act as a guide to bring out each student’s individuality. I will help students become critical thinkers by teaching them to express themselves and their opinions. I also believe that students learn from different ways, therefore, I will integrate many different learning techniques into my lessons. My goal is to make sure every student has the opportunity to learn.
As a teacher I must love my content areas so students can as well. Social Studies are an important part of our national heritage. Students must learn from the past to make their future better, if students do not have an understanding of his or her past they may continue to make mistakes that our forefathers have already done. Health education is vital because with longer life spans students need to maintain high levels of physical, social, emotional and intellectual health. A healthy mind and body makes an individual more able to adapt to life changes. I will help students stayed focused and interested in their work, and hopefully gain a love for social studies and Health like myself.
I plan to set high expectations and teach my students to set goals. I feel it is essential for students to voice their opinion. I know that I will be able to communicate with my students and try to understand their uniqueness. I hope to put emphasis on self-directed learning in my classroom. Through the use of technology I hope that I can reach each students diversified talents and in turn they will hopefully be more interested in their work.
