"Amanda is starting an intramural volley ball program for BMS on sunday nights. I
came to watch her opening night. She did an excellent job talking with the parents
and students. All was totally satisfied with how the night went. "
-Sara Moyle, Bothwell Middle School
Being able to relate to students, staff, and parents is very important to me as an educator. At the beginning of a new group of students, I use the students pictures to create my seating chart. Doing this helps me learn all of my students name right away. In school I feel it is important to take part of school based activities. I actively participated in spirit week as well as various fundraising efforts.I also take the time to attend events and activities that my students participate out of school. I have attended numerous sporting events, as well as plays, dances, and musical performances. I am always available for the students to come to me for help. I can relate with their situations, as I was young not to long ago. Many students come to me with questions and for guidance. As a health educator I have adequate training and education in character and can lead the student in the right direction.
Below is a picture from "Hat Day" during the schools spirit week.
I also learned from my mother (an educator for 41 years) that it is important to keep parents involved. Each day I either, call or send a positive note home with a student to let their parent or guardian known how their student is doing.
I feel that I communicate with other staff members very well as well as the administrators in the building. When any colleagues or administration is having a not so good day, I always remind them of something positive that many have happened.
I feel that I am a leader and have ample decision making skills. I have taken on many leadership roles during my education as well as my student teaching placement. I coached the Bothwell Middle School 6-8 Girl Intramural Volleyball team and lead my girls to success in the proper techniques of volleyball. I have also lead my 8th grade teams canned food drive, as well as volunteered to create several bulletin boards throughout the school.
Below are two examples of Bulletin Boards that I have put together for Bothwell Middle School.
This is a bulletin that I put together of Northern Michigan Students that were currently enrolled in Education Psychology for Secondary Education Teachers. Each picture on the board is of the NMU student reading. This Board was to support March as reading month.
The Showcase Bulletin below is a collage of pictures of all of the staff that helped put on and run the Bothwell Basketball Bonanza. The Basketball tournament raised money for the 7th graders to attend Bay Cliffs outdoor science camp. I have included thank you notes as well as the champions team photos. The showcase is right in the main cafe of the school for everyone to see.
