I talk to my supervising teachers all the time to see what I need to work on or what I did well. They are very helpful with giving me ideas of how to improve or what they sometimes do in that situation. I drafted an evaluation form that I had my students fill out about how I was doing as their teacher. I was very surprised with some of their suggestions. I even was able to incorporate some of their ideas for classroom activities into lessons after the evaluation.
Scroll down to see the examples that I have provided to demonstrate my skill to evaluate myself, students, and teaching.
Below are several returned evaluation forms from my 6th and 8th hour 7th grade Nutritional Health student.
I had many suggestions from my 7th graders in Nutrition Health who filled out the evaluation for me. I explained to the students that it was very important that I receive honest information so I will be able to grow as a teacher. I urged them to write things I need to work on. In a few of the evaluation forms I received comments like, " You should be stricter sometimes" , and " I want to draw sometimes, so you should have us make posters to learn the information." Both comments helped me in my student teaching. I started a new marking period with new students and I have learned to show the students that I mean business to establish a stricter classroom. It has already worked wonderfully! The students are in order and follow the rules but we still have a lot of fun! I even was able to create a lesson with creating posters to present to the class for the students that filled out the evaluation form. They enjoyed the lesson and I created a bulletin board to show everyone their work!
Below you will find a self-evaluation I filled out prior to the end of my student teaching placement.
